BTS didn\u2019t exactly bomb Sunday at the 2021 Grammy Awards telecast.<\/p>\n

Sure, the Korean boy band\u2019s hit English-language single \u201cDynamite\u201d earned them the first-ever Grammy nod for a K-pop crew \u2014 but their rushed performance at the 63rd annual awards ceremony was less than explosive. <\/p>\n

And the septet from Seoul ending up losing their sole<\/em> category of the night to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande\u2019s \u201cRain on Me.\u201d <\/p>\n

Still, they made history as the first K-pop act to perform one of their own nominated<\/em> songs at the Grammys. (BTS provided an assist to nominee Lil Nas X\u2019s \u201cOld Town Road\u201d during 2020\u2019s telecast.)<\/p>\n

Their performance was almost drowned out by the online outrage of #BTSArmy fans who were crying #Scammys<\/a> after their loss \u2014 but let\u2019s look on the bright side here. <\/p>\n

Isolated at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, BTS dropped \u201cDynamite\u201d on their quarantined fans as a gift. The gift has returned to them \u2014 in the form of their first Grammy Award nomination.<\/p>\n

The nod officially made BTS the first K-pop act to compete for a golden gramophone.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people were sad and down and out because of the COVID situation and it was sort of our suggestion to pick (everyone) up,\u201d BTS frontman Jin recently told The Associated Press. \u201cWe were supposed to do the whole stadium tour all over the world. There was no plan to release a single like \u2018Dynamite,’\u201d RM explained. \u201c\u2018Dynamite\u2019 gave us huge success in Korea, of course, a 2021 Grammy Award nomination, a performance, so you know, life is really interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDynamite\u201d became the seven-member group\u2019s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart when it was released in 2020. After years of logging Top 40 hits, breaking YouTube<\/a> viewership records and selling out arenas and stadiums, BTS competed for Best Pop Duo\/Group Performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really hard to express in words,\u201d fellow BTS member Jimin said of their virgin nod. \u201cEven now we can\u2019t still believe that we were nominated, and we\u2019ll be able to perform at the Grammys. So, we\u2019re thankful. We\u2019re honored.\u201d<\/p>\n

BTS\u2019 explosive hit battled Gaga and Grande\u2019s No. 1 smash \u2014 as well as Top 10 successes like Taylor Swift and Bon Iver\u2019s \u201cexile\u201d and Justin Bieber and Quavo\u2019s \u201cIntentions.\u201d J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Dua Lipa\u2019s \u201cUn Dia (One Day),\u201d which topped the Billboard Hot Latin songs chart, rounds out the five nominees.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always listen to \u2018Rain on Me.\u2019 It\u2019s so great to listen to that song on the treadmill. It was a hit. It was fire last year,\u201d RM said. \u201cAnd, of course, \u2018Intentions,\u2019 \u2018Exile\u2019 was crazy. And J Balvin and Dua Lipa.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re nervous and actually, frankly, we\u2019re not expecting (to win) so much because we don\u2019t want to get disapp<\/a>ointed because Lady Gaga, Taylor, Bieber, all the big names (are nominated). So, we\u2019re kind of confused. It\u2019s like rollercoaster \u2014 back and forth, back and forth, up and down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their Grammy performance marked their second on \u201cmusic\u2019s biggest night\u201d \u2014 they also assisted Lil Nas X when he sang \u201cOld Town Road\u201d last year. <\/p>\n

BTS has revealed that they are currently working on new music \u2014 as a group and soloists. They said the Grammy nod does create some pressure to deliver for fans, but they\u2019re not letting success get to their collective heads.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe try to stay down to earth and put our feet to the ground and do what we do,\u201d RM told the AP.<\/p>\n
