ABC\u2019s reboot of the beloved 1980s coming-of-age sitcom \u201cThe Wonder Years\u201d has found an actor for its main role.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elisha \u201cEJ\u201d Williams \u2014 who has app<\/a>eared in various children\u2019s TV shows including \u201cHenry Danger\u201d and \u201c3 \u2026 2 \u2026 Wonder!\u201d and as a voice actor on Disney Junior\u2019s animated \u201cPuppy Dog Pals\u201d \u2014 will star as preteen Dean in the remake of the classic dramedy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got you on this Zoom because we wanted to welcome you to the family and tell you that it\u2019s your turn to be the star of \u2018The Wonder Years,\u2019 \u201d said Fred Savage \u2014 who originally played Kevin, now renamed Dean \u2014 during a video call<\/a> with Williams. \u201cIt\u2019s your part, man; welcome,\u201d added Savage, 44, who is directing the remake\u2019s pilot, as well as serving as an executive producer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWelcome aboard, man; couldn\u2019t be happier,\u201d chimed in executive producer Saladin K. Patterson, who is also writing the half-hour series<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201dDean is an inquisitive and hopeful 12-year-old kid coming of age in a turbulent time. It\u2019s 1968 in Montgomery, Alabama \u2014 and Dean is trying to figure out his place within his Black family and the world at large,\u201d reads ABC\u2019s description for the character, according to the Wrap<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cThough a little insecure, a tad awkward and a bit self-conscious, he is determined to make his mark on the world around him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reboot, the development of which was first announced in July, is employing the original show\u2019s creator, Neal Marlens, as a consultant, Variety<\/a> reported.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWonder Years\u201d aired on ABC for six seasons and more than 100 episodes from 1988 to 1993. The adult version of the main character was voiced by Daniel Stern, who reflected on his 1960s and \u201970s childhood. The show won four Emmys, a Golden Globe, a Peabody Award and multiple Humanitas Prizes during the course of its run. The series also co-starred Dan Lauria as Kevin\u2019s dad, Jack; Alley Mills as his mom, Norma; Olivia d\u2019Abo as his older sister, Karen; Jason Hervey as Kevin\u2019s older brother, Wayne; Danica McKellar as Kevin\u2019s first love, Winnie Cooper; and Josh Saviano as Kevin\u2019s dorky BFF, Paul Pfeiffer.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
