Two Widener nursing professors were caught slamming their students at the end of a Zoom class recording, a report said.<\/p>\n

The comments from Professor Marcy C. Francis and lecturer Mary Marquis sparked outrage after they were app<\/a>arently uploaded to class files by mistake, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In an email with the Post, director of communication, Mary Allen, said that the professors\u2019 conversation was included in the video of a recorded Zoom class, which was \u201cautomatically uploaded,\u201d making it available to students. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re going to bomb this next test,\u201d one said. \u201cI think so, too,\u201d the other responded. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t care though. Let \u2018em fail,\u201d said the first. <\/p>\n

In the 86-second clip, which The Inquirer reported is the part of the conversation that circulated on social media<\/a>, Francis also expressed concerns that the students did not know anatomy \u201cat all,\u201d and that they would \u201cmove on\u201d and not \u201crepresent the school well.\u201d <\/p>\n

Marquis said she made her \u201cheart failure\u201d questions harder last year before the pandemic, because she was so mad at her students. <\/p>\n

An unnamed parent of a nursing student, said the professors should be fired, since their intent was to make \u201cstudents fail, not succeed.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIf they don\u2019t know the anatomy, that\u2019s a reflection upon you, not the student,\u201d he told The Inquirer. <\/p>\n

Officials within the university called the comments by both professors \u201cunprofessional,\u201d and both Anne M. Krouse, the dean of the School of Nursing, and provost Andrew A. Workman have issued statements. <\/p>\n

Workman \u2014 who, according to Allen, met with the students in the class to \u201chear their concerns and ensure they have the support they need to succeed\u201d \u2014 also sent a statement to faculty and staff on the main campus. <\/p>\n

Krouse sent two apologies: One to students in the class, and the other to all nursing students at Widener. <\/p>\n

Allen also confirmed that both faculty members have apologized to students in the class for their \u201cinappropriate conversation.\u201d <\/p>\n

In Francis\u2019 email to the class, which was obtained by The Inquirer, she described her and Marquis\u2019 comments as \u201cinappropriate and unprofessional.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to offer our most sincere apologies for what was said in the personal conversation between the two of us at the conclusion of class,\u201d the email read. <\/p>\n

\u201cLike all of you, we have experienced frustration with the challenges of remote learning, including the difficulties of teaching and assessing students from our individual spaces at home.\u201d <\/p>\n

Although Allen declined to comment when asked by The Inquirer whether the professors remain employed by Widener, in her email to the Post she confirmed that the university has replaced them with new instructors in the class in question, and in one other undergraduate class for the \u201cremainder of the semester.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
