At the 2021 Tokyo Anime<\/a> Award Festival on Monday, Yasuo Otsuka was revealed to have passed away at the age of 89.\u00a0<\/span>Yasuo Otsuka was a Studio Ghibli animator who worked as a director on popular anime titles such as <\/span>Lupin III, Future Boy Conan,<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Horus \u2013 Prince of the Sun<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He then served as an animation director alongside Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata on the critically-acclaimed classic anime film <\/span>Horus \u2013 Prince of the Sun<\/span><\/i>. After completing his next film, <\/span>The Wonderful World of Puss\u2019 n Boots<\/span><\/i>, Otsuka left Toei to join A Production (now known as Shinei Animation), and eventually to Telecom Animation Film. He also worked with a young Hayao Miyazaki as the animation director for <\/span>Future Boy Conan<\/span><\/i> and as a character designer <\/span>on Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro <\/span><\/i>at Studio Ghibli.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He also wrote several books about the anime industry in his career. One such book, titled \u201cSakuga Asemamire,\u201d is considered \u201ca prime resource for the history of 1960s and 1970s anime.\u201d In 2003, he became an advisor to Telecom Animation Film. He also became an instructor at Tokyo\u2019s Yoyogi Animation Academy, and in 2019, he received an Association\u2019s Special Award for lifetime achievement at the 42nd annual Japan Academy Prizes.<\/span>\"This<\/p>\n
