Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday that he\u2019s given up working with Gov. Andrew Cuomo \u2014 and suggested his longtime political rival, \u201cget the hell out of the way.\u201d <\/p>\n

Speaking on NY1 Monday evening, de Blasio tried to reassure New Yorkers that the city and state government would continue to function, despite the sprawling scandals engulfing Cuomo. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll keep going, but Gov. Cuomo should do everyone a favor and get the hell out of the way because it\u2019s just not going to make it any better for him to stick around,\u201d Hizzoner said. <\/p>\n

Earlier Monday, during an app<\/a>earance on National Public Radio\u2019s \u201cAll Things Considered,\u201d de Blasio \u2014 who last week said Cuomo can \u201cno longer serve as governor\u201d \u2014 was asked if he would \u201ccommit to trying\u201d to work with the governor to combat the pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have tried for seven years and I learned long ago it doesn\u2019t work because he doesn\u2019t seek collaboration with others,\u201d de Blasio said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s coming out more and more. Bottom line, I\u2019m going to defend the people of New York City. If I have to do that very publicly \u2014 and if I have to challenge the governor \u2014 I will.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hizzoner also expressed the hope that Cuomo would either leave office voluntarily \u2014 or be removed following an \u201cimpeachment investigation\u201d authorized last week by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D-The Bronx).<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I look forward to a governor I can work with in the future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

De Blasio and Cuomo, both Democrats, have long had a rocky relationship that included Hizzoner saying in 2015 that \u201cif someone disagrees with him openly, some kind of revenge or vendetta follows.\u201d<\/p>\n

De Blasio, who is barred from seeking re-election in November by term limits, on Sunday deflected repeated questions during an appearance on CBS\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation\u201d about whether he will run for governor next year.<\/p>\n

Cuomo has previously said he would seek a fourth term in 2022 but last week refused to say if he was sticking with that plan.<\/p>\n

Cuomo\u2019s office didn\u2019t immedia<\/a>tely return a request for comment.<\/p>\n
