In an attempt to claw back some of the huge amounts of debt created as its response, the U.S. government plans to raise taxes \u2014 and their impact could be much worse than many realize.<\/p>\n<p>This, Dalio thinks, will become a \u201cnew paradigm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf history and logic are to be a guide, policy makers who are short of money will raise taxes and won\u2019t like these capital movements out of debt assets and into other storehold of wealth assets and other tax domains so they could very well impose prohibitions against capital movements to other assets (e.g., gold, Bitcoin, etc.) and other locations,\u201d he summarized.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThese tax changes could be more shocking than expected.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As a result, the environment for those with savings will end up feeling less attractive than ever.<\/p>\n<p>The United States is becoming \u201cinhospitable to capitalism,\u201d Dalio says \u2014 and to guard against the consequences, investors should embrace a \u201cwell-diversified portfolio of non-debt and non-dollar assets along with a short cash position.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2021-03\/65b410bc-2fa2-499a-bc42-6a2e7a7238b6.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>U.S. 10-year bond yields vs. BTC\/USD chart. Source: Tradingview<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Saylor_taps_Bitcoin_as_%E2%80%9Cobvious_solution%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Saylor taps Bitcoin as &#8220;obvious solution&#8221;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Responding, however, Michael Saylor, CEO of MicroStrategy, said that Bitcoin is the answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI agree with (Dalio) that bonds no longer work as a treasury asset,\u201d he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/michael_saylor\/status\/1371639450242068480\">wrote<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cRespectfully, Bitcoin is the obvious solution, and much more practical than \u2018a well-diversified portfolio of non-debt and non-dollar assets\u2019 in \u2018Asian emerging&#8230;markets.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>MicroStrategy continues to add to its BTC position, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/michael_saylor\/status\/1370360546986430467\">revealing<\/a> a purchase of 260 BTC for $15 million last week. In total, the company holds 91,064 BTC.<\/p>\n<p>Dalio himself has changed his position markedly on Bitcoin, admitting that his misgivings were based on a lack of knowledge about how the cryptocurrency works. <\/p>\n<p>His perspective chimes with that of Arthur Hayes, former CEO of derivatives giant BitMEX, who in a post of his own <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptohayes.medium.com\/pumping-iron-ae8a54a32ea2\">told<\/a> investors to go long on cryptocurrency and interest rate volatility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also believe that one should be mindful of tax changes and the possibility of capital controls,\u201d Dalio concluded.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"markets_outlook\"><\/template><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
