Tom Hiddleston<\/a> has been cast as \u201ctrusted leader\u201d Will Ransome in the Apple TV+ Original drama The Essex Serpent<\/em><\/a>, based on Sarah Perry\u2019s bestselling novel about the people of a small rural community.<\/p>\n

He joins Claire Danes<\/a>, who plays the newly widowed Cora, who relocates to Aldwinter, a small village, after \u201cbeing released from an abusive marriage,\u201d the logline reads. She\u2019s \u201cintrigued by a local superstition that a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent has returned to the area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hiddleston\u2019s TV credits include the upcoming Loki<\/em><\/a> series<\/a> on Disney+ (premiering on Friday, June 11), The Night Manager<\/em><\/a>, and Wallander<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Anna Symon is adapting the novel, with Clio Barnard directing the series. They will executive produce with Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, and Emile Sherman. Andrea Cornwell will serve as producer.<\/p>\n
