There\u2019s a new\u00a0Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/em><\/strong> movie on the way, and now we have some more details courtesy of producer\u00a0Fede Alvarez<\/strong>. We already suspected the film was going to be more of a sequel than a reboot, and Alvarez has confirmed that. In his words, the new movie is a \u201cdirect sequel\u201d and will feature \u201cold man Leatherface,\u201d which sounds kind of quaint, actually. Perhaps the film won\u2019t even involve death and dismemberment. Maybe Old Man Leatherface will just spend his time sitting on his porch, swigging a Lone Star Beer and remembering the old days.<\/p>\n

\nLate last year, the poster for the new\u00a0Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/em> movie was released, and while it didn\u2019t come right out and say \u201cthis is a direct sequel!\u201d, the implications were there. Now, we know for certain that\u2019s the case. Speaking with Bloody Disgusting<\/a>, Fede Alvarez the director of\u00a0Don\u2019t Breathe<\/em> and producer of the new\u00a0Texas Chainsaw<\/em>, confirmed that the upcoming flick is going to tie directly into the original movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a direct sequel, and it is the same character,\u201d Alvarez said. \u201cIt is old man Leatherface.\u201d The producer also promised that the new film would be taking an old school app<\/a>roach, stating: \u201cEverything is classic, old school gags.\u00a0A lot of the approach that we had with Evil Dead<\/em> \u2013 never VFX, to do everything on camera. It\u2019s a very old-school approach to filmmaking.\u00a0Vintage lenses\u2026it\u2019s very similar to the original film.\u201d<\/p>\n

All of this sounds promising. However, the production has not been without its issues.\u00a0Ryan\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Andy Tohill<\/strong>, the team behind the\u00a02018 British-Irish film\u00a0The Dig<\/em>, were originally set to helm the movie. However, the directing duo walked away from the film after one week of shooting, citing creative differences. They were replaced by\u00a0David Blue Garcia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When the Tohills were announced as directors, word had it that the plot involved a woman who drags her teenage sister out to Texas on a business trip<\/a>, at which point they likely run afoul of Leatherface and his cannibal kin. It\u2019s unclear if that\u2019s still the storyline, though. But we do know the cast includes\u00a0Elsie Fisher<\/strong>,\u00a0Sarah Yarkin<\/strong>,\u00a0Jacob Latimore,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Moe Dunford<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Texas Chainsaw<\/em> franchise has been a bit hit-or-miss, but I\u2019d be lying if I said I wasn\u2019t interested in this new incarnation. It\u2019s worth noting that the \u201cdirect sequel\u201d idea has been tried before, specifically with the absolutely\u00a0terrible<\/em> 2013 movie\u00a0Texas Chainsaw 3D. Here\u2019s hoping this new version fares better.
