Now that they have the pretty terrible drama\u00a0Cherry<\/em> under their belt, the Russo Brothers<\/strong> are returning to blockbuster-style action with\u00a0The Gray Man<\/em><\/strong>. The Netflix movie stars Ryan Gosling<\/strong> and Chris Evans<\/strong>, and the Russos have announced via social media<\/a> that production on the pic has just begun. The cast also includes Ana de Armas<\/strong>, and the story comes from the first in a series<\/a> of novels by\u00a0Mark Greaney. In the end, the Russos and Netflix are hoping will launch an entire film franchise here.<\/p>\n

\nAs you can see in the tweet above, it\u2019s day one as\u00a0The Gray Man<\/em> production begins. The flick stars Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans as two former colleagues who end up in a game<\/a> of cat and mouse. Based on the book by Mark Greaney, the story follows a \u201cdeadly duel between killers as a freelance assassin and former CIA operative named Court Gentry (Gosling) is hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Evans), a former cohort of Gentry\u2019s at the CIA.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to Gosling and Evans,\u00a0The Gray Man<\/em> also stars Ana de Armas, Reg\u00e9-Jean Page<\/strong>, Alfre Woodard<\/strong>, Billy Bob Thornton<\/strong>, Jessica Henwick<\/strong>, Wagner Moura<\/strong>, Julia Butters<\/strong>, and Dhanush<\/strong>.\u00a0Joe and Anthony Russo are directing, with the script<\/a> from Joe Russo,\u00a0Christopher Markus<\/strong> and Stephen McFeely<\/strong>. The hope here is to launch an entire film franchise, with Joe Russo saying: \u201cThe idea is to create a franchise and build out a whole universe, with Ryan at the center of it. We have all committed to the first movie and that\u2019s got to be great to get us to the second movie. These are master assassins and Gosling\u2019s character gets burned by the CIA and Evans\u2019 character has to hunt him down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anthony Russo previously said: \u201cThe movie is a real mano a mano between those two great actors, who represent two different versions of the CIA, in what it can be, and what it can do. For those who were fans of\u00a0Captain America: Winter Soldier<\/em>, this is us moving into that territory in more of a real-world setting. That\u2019s what this movie really means for us.\u201d<\/p>\n
