\u201cMars House,\u201d a futuristic-looking pad designed by Toronto-based digital artist Krista Kim, features sweeping views, plus modern, see-through furniture and even an infinity pool. <\/p>\n

\u201cI see it as a weekend home, like a villa,\u201d Kim told The Post. \u201cIt\u2019s perfect for a couple.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The only glitch? It doesn\u2019t actually exist.\u00a0<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t physically step inside, let alone live in the abode, which boasts a psychedelic, thermal-gradient theme<\/a> and is being sold digitally as a bundle of 3-D files that includes an original soundtrack by Jeff Schroeder of the Smashing Pumpkins. <\/p>\n

The files, available through the art-selling platform SuperRare<\/a>, can be uploaded as a showy Zoom background for remote meetings or to a buyer\u2019s \u201cMetaverse,\u201d a \u201cSims\u201d-like computerized world that can be accessed via virtual-reality goggles, such as Samsung\u2019s Oculus set.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cCan a person fall in love with a digital home and live in it virtually?\u201d Kim asked rhetorically, having drawn inspiration for the house from the ancient Zen gardens of Kyoto, Japan, and the chilled-out feeling she gets from transcendental meditation. She called her augmented-reality project \u201ca masterpiece\u201d and \u201ca marker of our time.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The current ask for the non-fungible token (NFT) asset \u2014 a buzzy, new art-world commodity that employs the blockchain technology<\/a> of cryptocurrency and the prestige of owning original editions of fine art \u2014 is 30 Ethereum tokens. <\/p>\n

That\u2019s $59,752.84 in real-world money, which is a steal compared to the recent, record-smashing $69 million sale of a digital collage by Beeple, a k a artist Mike Winkelmann. <\/p>\n

Tesla founder Elon Musk has also gotten in on the non-fungible fun, auctioning off an original techno song about \u2014 what else? \u2014 NFTs on Valuables, another selling platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t for everyone,\u201d said Kim, who has collaborated with the likes of the high-fashion brand Lanvin and is working on an installation for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) conference in Venice, Italy, this September. <\/p>\n

She designed the environment in March 2020 \u2014 \u201dIt became my dream house,\u201d she said \u2014 in the midst of the coronavirus lockdown, but she only discovered \u201cNFTs,\u201d and an opportunity to cash-out big, three months ago. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s for someone with a vision,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kim, a self-described \u201cfuturist,\u201d worked with Buenos Aires-based architecture student Mateo Sanz, who used Unreal Engine, a video-game<\/a> design software, to build out the virtual digs to her exacting e-specifications.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Instead of a deed, \u201cMars House\u201d comes with terms and conditions, which outline the rules of the software. \u201cI own the copyright,\u201d said Kim. \u201cThe buyer will own the assets. They can only make one copy of the files, which we will help them upload.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

No kitchen is included in the open floor plan \u2014 there\u2019s no way to eat food in cyberspace, after all \u2014 but there are two steel boxes in the middle of the glass-inspired structure. One is, confusingly, a bathroom, according to Kim, and the other is a walk-in closet, perhaps for virtual clothes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kim said that, down the line, she\u2019s hoping to release the geometric furniture featured in \u201cMars House\u201d as a physical line made by a glassblower in Venice, and finished with an anti-microbial coating made in Germany. <\/p>\n

But for now, buyers will have to settle for coding.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe the augmented-reality lifestyle is upon us,\u201d said Kim, who hopes avatars will one day gather in the house\u2019s far-out living room \u2014 and porch. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe expansive outdoor area makes it perfect for a nice party,\u201d she said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
