Soon after the first woman accused Gov. Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment last December, the governor and his close associates worked to draft a letter attacking the former aide\u2019s credibility, a new report said Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The letter, which was never released, disparaged Lindsey Boylan and accused her of coming forward for \u201cpolitical retribution,\u201d according to a copy reviewed by The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Boylan, one of seven women to accuse Cuomo of inapp<\/a>ropriate conduct, first made her claims in a series<\/a> of Twitter<\/a> posts \u2014 before sparking the sexual harassment scandal against the governor with more details in a post to the website Medium.<\/p>\n

In the days after Boylan\u2019s tweets, at least one draft of the attack letter began circulating among allies to the governor\u2019s current and former top aides, sources told the news<\/a>paper.<\/p>\n

The initial intention was to get former top statehouse staffers \u2014 with a focus on women \u2014 to sign onto the letter, the report said.<\/p>\n

One draft of the letter noted a campaign consultant to Boylan, who is now a Democratic candidate for Manhattan borough president, also worked for a Cuomo political enemy.<\/p>\n

The letter went on to say that Boylan was \u201csupported by lawyers and financial backers of Donald Trump: an active opponent of the governor,\u201d according to the Times.<\/p>\n

It concluded: \u201cWeaponizing a claim of sexual harassment for personal political gain or to achieve notoriety cannot be tolerated. False claims demean the veracity of credible claims.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boylan, 36, has alleged Cuomo kissed her \u201con the lips\u201d without warning inside his Manhattan office in 2018. She also claimed the governor had asked her to play strip<\/a> poker a year earlier.<\/p>\n

Cuomo has denied the accusations and said he never touched anyone inappropriately.<\/p>\n

Boylan\u2019s lawyer, Jill Basinger, slammed the drafted letter in a statement to the Times.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce again, a victim of sexual harassment who has the courage to tell her story is put in the position of not only having to relive the trauma of a toxic work environment but defend herself against the malicious leaking of supposed personnel files, character assassinations and a whisper campaign of retaliation,\u201d Basinger said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis page needs to be ripped out of the governor\u2019s harassment handbook.\u201d<\/p>\n
