Spring breakers are already descending on South Padre Island in Texas \u2014 and locals worry that the college crowd\u2019s celebration could turn into a COVID-19 superspreader, according to reports. <\/p>\n

\u201cI hope this doesn\u2019t come back to create an influx of cases and a superspreader virus incident,\u201d Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino told KXAN<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tourist hotspots are eager for the spending free-for-all \u2014 even as medical experts warn that people should still wear masks and practice social<\/a> distancing amid the pandemic, which has claimed almost 537,000 lives in the US as of Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe state has opened up for business, so that means we\u2019re open for business,\u201d Clayton Brashear, owner of Clayton\u2019s Beach Bar & Grill, told KXAN.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to give the kids something so they enjoy their spring break and come back to the island.\u201d<\/p>\n

Students told the outlet that after a year of academic life in a pandemic, they\u2019re ready to be college kids again.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I just feel like it\u2019s time to move on with our lives and stuff and get back out there,\u201d Drew Burke of San Antonio, who was at Clayton\u2019s Beach Bar & Grill without a mask, told the station.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
