Experts say it\u2019s a bunch of phantom-foolery. <\/p>\n

A video of a North Carolina baby \u201cbeing pushed by a ghost\u201d is being debunked by experts, who claim the so-called supernatural encounter is nothing more than digital trickery. <\/p>\n

The 5-second sped-up clip<\/a>, posted to social media<\/a> last month by Fort Bragg\u2019s Shelby Patterson, shows a toddler ambling \u2014 suspiciously swiftly \u2014 across a room as her mom watches from the couch. All of a sudden, the tot topples backward onto their bottom, supposedly shoved by a spectral entity. <\/p>\n

Go figure: Video analysts didn\u2019t feel the suspect clip proved the existence of paranormal activity. <\/p>\n

\u201cTo me, it looks like the toddler just fell,\u201d legendary British-American skeptic and science<\/a> writer Mick West told The Post in an interview. \u201cWhen someone is pushed the initial movement is quite rapid and leads to twisting or bending of the body at the waist.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no sudden movement here. Instead, the initial movement is slow, with no reaction. The toddler simply falls over backward by itself,\u201d said the former video game<\/a> programmer, whose website Metabunk<\/a> investigates and disproves conspiracy theories from chemtrails to UFOs. \u201cJudging by the earlier stumble it seems like walking is a new thing, and so it has not yet learned how to deal with losing balance very well.\u201d<\/p>\n

West concluded that the supernatural smackdown was likely \u201cjust an odd-looking fall in the dark.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Post\u2019s resident video expert Steven Greenstreet seconded his sentiment, claiming that it looked as if the tyke had \u201cstepped on something, maybe a block.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201c[The] kid\u2019s feet more or less stay in the same place during the fall,\u201d said the ghost-video buster, who made a chilling discovery while exploring one of the US\u2019 most haunted prisons. \u201cIf she was pushed, her feet and legs would\u2019ve moved back.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for the accelerated speed of the video, Greenstreet said that it\u2019s caused by a \u201clower frame rate\u201d while the \u201cblurs in the motion are due to a wide shutter speed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt looks like the kid falls faster than they did,\u201d Greenstreet added. <\/p>\n

His closing argument: \u201cA ghost couldn\u2019t have pushed this toddler because ghosts aren\u2019t real.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patterson has yet to respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

Either way, the \u201coccult encounter\u201d certainly doesn\u2019t hold a candle to a recent spine-tingling incident in which two adventurers\u00a0stumbled upon a ghostly figure\u00a0in an abandoned United Kingdom nursing home. <\/p><\/div>\n
