It\u2019s a question we\u2019ve wondered \u2014 or technically, we should say that we wondered if it was canceled at all.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve long tried to be delicate in specifying the difference between a cancellation and a show ending \u2014 we tend to use the latter if we learn that it was a creative decision to shut a show down. When it is a network decision, however, we opt for the former \u2014 and this does seem to be the case here.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview this week on\u00a0<em>The Late Late Show with James Corden,\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> star Allison Janney made it clear (via <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tvline.com\/2021\/03\/18\/mom-cancelled-allison-janney-interview-show-ending\/\">TVLine<\/a>) that she was hoping for at least one more season of the show \u2014 and while it does seem like the writers have the time to craft a proper ending, it may not be what they once planned:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cI\u2019m sad \u2026 I wish we\u2019d had at least another year for the writers to have that much time to ramp up to the ending. We sort of found out sooner than we thought we would hear. We thought, \u2018Surely they\u2019re going to want more <em>Mom<\/em>,\u2019 and they decided not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As to why the show is ending now, Janney speculates that it may have had to do with money \u2014 we know that series do tend to cost significantly more money once they get past season 6 or 7, and this could be the case here. Even though losing Anna Faris may have cut down on some cost, that may not have been enough.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, we are still hoping for Faris to return for the end of the series \u2014 given that so much of the early seasons was especially about Christy, we only think it\u2019s fitting that we get one last update on her before\u00a0<em>Mom\u00a0<\/em>drops the final curtain.
