“#How to Get Live Captions For Any Video or Audio in Chrome”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many people rely on captions for audio or video content, but not every media<\/a> website provides them. The \u201cLive Caption\u201d feature is built into the Google Chrome browser and works everywhere. We\u2019ll show you how to use this handy feature.<\/p>\n

Google Chrome itself can create captions for any video or audio-only content playing in the web browser. It works in the same way as Live Caption on\u00a0Google Pixel phones.\u00a0At the time of this writing, the feature is only available in English.<\/p>\n

To enable Live Caption, open Google Chrome<\/a> on your Windows 10, Mac, or Linux computer and then click the three-dot menu icon in the top-right of the window.<\/p>\n

Next, select \u201cSettings\u201d from the menu.<\/p>\n

In the left sidebar, expand the \u201cAdvanced\u201d section and select \u201cAccessibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Toggle on the \u201cLive Caption\u201d option. Some speech recognition files will immediately download<\/a>. If you don\u2019t see the Live Caption toggle, try updating your browser.<\/p>\n

Once the files are done downloading, Live Caption is ready to use! Go to a website and play a video or anything with transcribable audio. The captions will appear in a translucent black box at the bottom of the screen.<\/p>\n

You can click the \u201cX\u201d button found in the top-right corner of the caption\u2019s black box to close the caption. You can also select the small down arrow to see more text. If you close the caption box, you\u2019ll need to refresh the page to bring it back.<\/p>\n

To toggle Live Caption on or off, you don\u2019t have to go to the Settings menu every time. Instead, click the media icon in the Chrome toolbar, and you\u2019ll find a toggle for \u201cLive Caption.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s it! The feature\u2014theoretically\u2014works on any website as long as there\u2019s something transcribable playing. We tested it successfully on YouTube, Disney+, and even the Spotify Web Player.<\/p>\n

As you can see above, the accuracy of the captions is a bit hit or miss (\u201cWestern\u201d should be \u201cwasting\u201d). This is still a handy feature for those sites that don\u2019t have their own captioning system.<\/p>\n
