{"id":206132,"date":"2021-03-19T12:04:54","date_gmt":"2021-03-19T09:04:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nhtsa-is-investigating-27-tesla-crashes-and-about-time-too\/"},"modified":"2021-03-19T12:04:54","modified_gmt":"2021-03-19T09:04:54","slug":"nhtsa-is-investigating-27-tesla-crashes-and-about-time-too","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nhtsa-is-investigating-27-tesla-crashes-and-about-time-too\/","title":{"rendered":"#NHTSA is investigating 27 Tesla crashes, and about time too"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NHTSA is investigating 27 Tesla crashes, and about time too<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2020\/07\/tesla-nhtsa-investigation-car-cooling-pipes-fix-broken-la-times-business-insider-796x448.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n                                The US\u2019 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is opening 27 investigations into crashes involving Tesla vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Four of the investigations have been completed, but no results <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear to have been shared yet. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/top-news\/articles\/2021-03-18\/us-safety-agency-reviewing-23-tesla-crashes-three-from-recent-weeks\">US News reports<\/a> that at least three of the crashes being investigated happened in the past few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>                <iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/epvmxh57cx?videoFoam=true&amp;autoplay=true&amp;silentAutoPlay=true\" title=\"Bumper 06 Video\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" class=\"wistia_embed\" name=\"wistia_embed\" allowfullscreen=\"\" msallowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>According to the report, the NHTSA\u2019s Special Crash Investigation team analyses 100 crashes a year, focusing on new and emerging technologies, like Tesla\u2019s Autopilot.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past month, there have been two crashes in Michigan involving Tesla vehicles.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/eu.detroitnews.com\/story\/business\/autos\/2021\/03\/18\/us-sends-investigators-probe-another-michigan-tesla-crash\/4745139001\/\">In one recent incident<\/a>, a Tesla driver, who is believed to have be using Autopilot at the time, rear-ended a state police vehicle. Luckily no one was injured on this occasion.<\/p>\n<p>In the other crash, a Tesla crashed into a semi-articulated truck\u2019s trailer. The driver and passenger were both taken to hospital. The passenger is reported to have sustained \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/eu.detroitnews.com\/story\/business\/autos\/2021\/03\/16\/nhtsa-team-detroit-investigate-tesla-semi-crash\/4713734001\/\">serious head trauma<\/a>.\u201d Initial investigations resolved that Autopilot wasn\u2019t engaged at the time of this incident.<\/p>\n<p>Despite a string of serious road traffic incidents involving Tesla vehicles over the past fives years, the NHTSA remained passive.<\/p>\n<p>However, as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com\/2021\/03\/17\/nhtsa-investigators-sent-to-investigate-2-tesla-crashes-in-michigan\/\">reports suggest<\/a>, it seems that the safety body will no longer sit back as serious incidents continue to occur. It comes as President Joe Biden seeks to cast a keener eye over the regulation of advanced driver assistance tech.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s about damn time, too. It\u2019s not like serious incidents involving Teslas on Autopilot <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tesladeaths.com\/\">are a new thing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is still much debate over the efficacy of systems like Tesla\u2019s Autopilot. While it has been known to save drivers from potential accidents, its misuse can have devastating consequences.<\/p>\n<p>We can only hope that the NHTSA\u2019s investigations lead to valuable insights that can help inform regulation of advanced driver assistance systems like Autopilot.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><i><span>Do EVs excite your electrons?
