The 1992 erotic thriller \u201cBasic Instinct\u201d turned Sharon Stone into a star \u2014 but it nearly crushed her spirit in the process.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In an excerpt from the 63-year-old\u2019s forthcoming memoir, \u201cThe Beauty of Living Twice<\/a>,\u201d Stone has opened up about the infamous crotch shot scene in the film, which she\u2019d been led to believe was far less revealing than it was.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter we shot \u2018Basic Instinct,\u2019 I got called in to see it. Not on my own with the director, as one would anticipate, given the situation that has given us all pause, so to speak, but with a room full of agents and lawyers, most of whom had nothing to do with the project,\u201d reads the excerpt, published in Vanity Fair<\/a>. \u201cThat was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time, long after I\u2019d been told, \u2018We can\u2019t see anything \u2014 I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

While Stone cedes there are \u201cmany points of view on this topic\u201d she asserts that, as the \u201cone with the vagina,\u201d hers is the only one which matters and \u201cthe other points of view are bulls\u2013t.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBasic Instinct\u201d director Paul Verhoeven has previously said Stone is \u201clying\u201d and claimed that she was fully aware of how the shot would look.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSharon is lying,\u201d Verhoeven, 82, told ICON<\/a> in 2017. \u201cAny actress knows what she\u2019s going to see if you ask her to take off her underwear and point there with the camera.\u201d<\/p>\n

And ultimately, after consulting with her lawyer, Stone did choose to allow the scene in the film. \u201cWhy? Because it was correct for the film and for the character; and because, after all, I did it,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cBasic Instinct\u201d wasn\u2019t the only distressing situation she\u2019s had to endure in her film career. For another movie, Stone claimed a producer tried to convince her to \u201cf\u2013k my co-star so that we could have on-screen chemistry.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Standing up for herself in such situations gave her a reputation as \u201cdifficult.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMany people ask me what it was like in my days of being a superstar,\u201d she goes on. \u201cIt was like this. Play ball or get off the field, girl.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>The Beauty of Living Twice<\/em><\/a>,\u201d is out March 30, and available for $24.95 on presale.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
