No matter how many times we see the words \u201cStabler\u2019s coming home,\u201d they still give us the chills, so you won\u2019t get any complaints from us that they\u2019re all over every promo NBC releases in anticipation of Christopher Meloni\u2019s<\/a>SVU<\/em><\/a> spinoff, Law & Order: Organized Crime<\/em><\/a> (premiering April 1).<\/p>\n

\u201cI have paid a price for my mistakes. I won\u2019t let that hold me back,\u201d Meloni\u2019s Elliot Stabler says in the latest preview. \u201cI will keep moving forward. Now, it\u2019s time to make things right. The world\u2019s changed, and so have I.\u201d Watch it below.<\/p>\n

We know that he\u2019ll have suffered \u201ca devastating personal loss,\u201d as the official logline of Dick Wolf\u2019s latest series<\/a>, teases. Is Stabler at all alluding to that when he says he\u2019s \u201cpaid a price for [his] mistakes\u201d?<\/p>\n

The last time fans saw Meloni in the Law & Order<\/em><\/a> world, his character had to shoot an armed young girl in the precinct (after she\u2019d opened fire) in SVU<\/em>\u2018s Season 12 finale in 2011. In the following premiere, then-Captain Cragen (Dann Florek) informed Stabler\u2019s partner, then-detective (now Captain) Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay<\/a>) that Elliot turned his papers in. They presumably have not talked since.<\/p>\n

Stabler even seems to address his distance with his former teammates in one of the previous promos released. \u201cWhen I left SVU, I know I didn\u2019t handle that well,\u201d he admit to Sergeant Fin Tutuola (Ice-T<\/a>), who reminds him, he \u201cdidn\u2019t handle it at all\u201d after they\u2019d worked together for 10 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know how so much time has passed you can\u2019t reach out?\u201d Stabler seems to offer as an explanation. \u201cDays turn into months turn into years, and I just kept waiting for the right moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was Fin who seemed to offer a hint of Stabler\u2019s impending return in the last SVU<\/em> episode (on February 25) after Olivia wasn\u2019t sure about accepting an award in a month\u2019s time. \u201cYou never know who may show up,\u201d he commented.<\/p>\n

The two-hour crossover event, kicking off with SVU<\/em> and leading into Organized Crime<\/em>\u2018s premiere, will be about a month after that. Well, it\u2019s actually 13 days now \u2014 and we cannot wait!<\/p>\n
