Producer\u00a0Fede Alvarez\u00a0<\/strong>recently revealed that the upcoming\u00a0Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/em><\/strong> movie wasn\u2019t a reboot, it was a direct sequel to the original film. And it certainly looks like he wasn\u2019t kidding, because now it\u2019s been confirmed that\u00a0Sally Hardesty, the final girl from the original film, is back for this new entry. Unfortunately, original Sally actress\u00a0Marilyn Burns died in 2014, so the role had to be recast \u2013 and it was, with\u00a0Mandy\u00a0<\/em>actress Olwen Fou\u00e9r\u00e9<\/strong> taking on the role.<\/p>\n

Bloody Disgusting<\/a> broke the news<\/a> that\u00a0Olwen Fou\u00e9r\u00e9, who app<\/a>eared in\u00a0Mandy<\/em> and\u00a0Sea Fever<\/em>, is playing Sally Hardesty in the new\u00a0Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/em> movie (which I guess is just officially called\u00a0The Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/em> at this point). This certainly lends even more credence to producer Fede Alvarez\u2019s claim that the new movie would be a direct sequel rather than a reboot.
\nAs Alvarez put it: \u201cIt is a direct sequel, and it is the same character. It is old man Leatherface\u2026Everything is classic, old school gags.\u00a0A lot of the approach that we had with\u00a0Evil Dead<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 never VFX, to do everything on camera. It\u2019s a very old-school approach to filmmaking.\u00a0Vintage lenses\u2026it\u2019s very similar to the original film.\u201d<\/p>\n

All that said, I\u2019m 99.9% sure this new film is following the\u00a0Halloween <\/em>2018 route, in that it\u2019s a direct sequel to the first film and the first film only, and that all the other sequels are going to be ignored. That\u2019s not really that big a deal, since the majority of the\u00a0Texas Chainsaw<\/em> sequels stand on their own. The only entry that could be thought of as a direct sequel would probably be 2013\u2019s terrible\u00a0Texas Chainsaw 3D<\/em>, and if everyone wants to ignore that, I have no complaints.<\/p>\n

Sally Hardesty was the sole survivor of the original\u00a0Texas Chainsaw<\/em> Massacre\u00a0<\/em>film (which I am well-aware is actually called\u00a0Texas Chain Saw Massacre<\/em>, so please don\u2019t yell at me). Sally and her pals were on a road trip<\/a> in Texas and ran afoul of Leatherface and his cannibal kin. After all her friends got slaughtered, Sally was taken captive and almost bit the dust herself but managed to escape by jumping through a window, running out to the road, and eventually climbing into the back of a pick-up truck. This resulted in one of the most iconic moments in horror cinema, with a blood-drenched Sally laughing hysterically as she rides to safety all while Leatherface, left behind, does a little dance, swinging his buzzing chainsaw around.<\/p>\n

Marilyn Burns played Sally in the original film, and the actress also appeared in two of the sequels \u2013\u00a0Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation<\/em> and the aforementioned\u00a0Texas Chainsaw 3D<\/em>. However, she played different characters in both of those films. Burns died in 2014, which is why the role had to be recast for this new film.<\/p>\n

The new\u00a0Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/em> movie is directed by\u00a0David Blue Garcia<\/strong> and also stars\u00a0Elsie Fisher<\/strong>,\u00a0Sarah Yarkin<\/strong>,\u00a0Jacob Latimore,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Moe Dunford<\/strong>. There\u2019s no official release date just yet, but the teaser poster for the film says it\u2019s expected to arrive sometime this year.
