The \u201cOK Google\u201d and \u201cHey Google\u201d commands can be handy for hands-free tasks, but you might not want to use them. If you\u2019d like to stop your Android device from listening for these Google Assistant hot words, it\u2019s easy to do.<\/p>\n

If you have Google Nest\/Home speakers in your house, it can be annoying to have your Android phone or tablet wake up for the command every time you talk to a speaker, or maybe you just don\u2019t want your handset\u00a0recording your voice every time it thinks it hears the command.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, it\u2019s very easy to turn off \u201cOK Google\u201d and \u201cHey Google\u201d detection on an Android device.<\/p>\n

First, open\u00a0the Google Assistant app<\/a>. You can simply tap the home screen icon,\u00a0say \u201cOK, Google,\u201d or swipe in from the bottom-left or -right corner.<\/p>\n

Now, tap the Snapshot icon in the bottom-left corner. The UI may look slightly different depending on your device.<\/p>\n

Next, tap your profile icon to open the Assistant\u2019s Settings menu.<\/p>\n

The setting we\u2019re looking for is \u201cVoice Match.\u201d<\/p>\n

This page shows all the Google Assistant-enabled devices that can detect your voice. At the top, you\u2019ll see a section titled \u201cThis Phone\u201d (or tablet). Simply toggle off the switch for \u201cHey Google.\u201d<\/p>\n

A pop-up message will appear explaining that you can still use the voice commands in some driving apps, such as Google Maps. Tap \u201cOK.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s all there is to it. Your Android phone or tablet will no longer wake up when you say \u201cOK Google\u201d or \u201cHey Google.\u201d<\/p>\n
