Teen Vogue\u2019s No. 2 editor is leaving the Cond\u00e9 Nast title \u2014 a day after Alexi McCammond, who was set to become editor-in-chief next week, resigned in a firestorm of controversy over racist tweets she made as a college freshman a decade earlier.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been sitting on this announcement for a while\u2014but today is my last day as executive editor at @TeenVogue!\u201d Samhita Mukhopadhyay, Teen Vogue\u2019s executive editor, announced her exit on Twitter on Friday<\/a>. \u201cWorking here has been one of the most rewarding, challenging, and important experiences of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe work we\u2019ve done at Teen Vogue is historic and I know the team will only continue this legacy. It has been a tough year and an especially tough few weeks for us. It\u2019s going to take me a while to process everything,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I leave steadfast in my belief in the transformative power of stories and in the importance of amplifying the voices most marginalized, the ones that set us free.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mukhopadhyay \u2014 seen as one of the driving forces behind the digital magazine\u2019s aggressive push into coverage of LBGTQ issues and the presidential election, broadening its readership beyond the makeup and fashion world \u2014 declined to comment further on Friday. <\/p>\n

Her departure, however, didn\u2019t app<\/a>ear to be tied directly to the turmoil surrounding McCammond, and was reportedly announced internally about six weeks ago. <\/p>\n

One source familiar with Mukopadhyay, who joined Teen Vogue in 2018, said she had made the decision to resign when previous editor Lindsey Peoples Wagner announced her departure in early January, saying she was returning to New York magazine to take over its fashion blog, The Cut.<\/p>\n

Her exit signals that Conde Nast honcho Anna Wintour didn\u2019t have a \u201cPlan B\u201d to promote an internal candidate to fill the vacant editor in chief job at Teen Vogue now that Alexi McCammond has withdrawn. <\/p>\n

Spokespeople for Conde Nast did not immedia<\/a>tely return calls.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
