{"id":206927,"date":"2021-03-19T18:16:26","date_gmt":"2021-03-19T15:16:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/mars-is-first-inner-planet-after-earth-to-have-core-measured\/"},"modified":"2021-03-19T18:16:26","modified_gmt":"2021-03-19T15:16:26","slug":"mars-is-first-inner-planet-after-earth-to-have-core-measured","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/mars-is-first-inner-planet-after-earth-to-have-core-measured\/","title":{"rendered":"#Mars is first inner planet after Earth to have core measured"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Mars is first inner planet after Earth to have core measured<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/03\/SCI-Mars-Lander.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>NASA\u2019s\u00a0InSight\u00a0spacecraft\u00a0has measured the size of\u00a0Mars\u2019\u00a0core for the first time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0spacecraft\u00a0launched in May 2018 and successfully landed on the\u00a0red planet\u00a0in November of that year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>InSight \u2014 which\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mars.nasa.gov\/insight\/mission\/overview\/\">is short for<\/a>\u00a0Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport \u2014\u00a0was created to study the early\u00a0evolution\u00a0of terrestrial planets including the interior structure of Mars.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mars.nasa.gov\/insight\/spacecraft\/about-the-lander\/\">lander<\/a>\u00a0also calculates and quantifies tectonic activity and\u00a0meteorite impacts\u00a0on the planet and reached its current findings by examining\u00a0seismic energy\u00a0in Mars\u2019 interior or \u201cmarsquakes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The measurement, which was presented at the\u00a0virtual Lunar and Planetary <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science<\/a> Conference this week, suggests that the radius of the Martian core is around 1,810 to 1,860 kilometers, according to the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-021-00696-7\">scientific journal Nature<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The InSight team reportedly said that the measurement is noticeably larger than previous estimates, indicating that the core is less dense than had been initially projected and likely contains lighter elements.<\/p>\n<p>The Earth and the\u00a0moon\u00a0have been measured similarly.<\/p>\n<p>Knowing the size of a planet\u2019s core is critical to understanding its history and gives researchers context about the planet\u2019s evolution.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mars formed more than\u00a04.5 billion years ago from minerals and elements found on Earth.\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/mars.nasa.gov\/#red_planet\/5\">NASA knows<\/a>\u00a0that Mars\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/science\/new-nasa-study-beliefs-water-mars\">once had water<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 rivers, lakes and even an\u00a0ocean\u00a0\u2014 before it dehydrated and gradually lost a significant\u00a0portion of its atmosphere.\n            <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
