Chrome\u2019s \u201cReading List\u201d is a convenient way to save pages and articles for later. However, if you\u2019re not interested in the feature, the permanent button in the Bookmarks Bar can be annoying. We\u2019ll show you how to remove it.<\/p>\n

The Reading List is simply a place to save pages to read later. It\u2019s a similar concept to services like Pocket<\/a>\u00a0but built right into the Chrome web browser. On iPhone and iPad, the Reading List is easy to ignore if you don\u2019t use it, but on the desktop, it takes up space in the Bookmarks Bar.<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, there isn\u2019t a stable way to remove the Reading List button. We\u2019ll be using a Chrome \u201cflag\u201d to turn it off. While not ideal, it does work, and it\u2019s easy to do.<\/p>\n

Warning:<\/strong> Features put behind Chrome flags are there for a reason. They may be unstable, might negatively impact your browser\u2019s performance, and can vanish without notice. Enable flags at your own risk.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

First, open Google Chrome<\/a> on your Windows, Mac, or Linux PC. Then, type chrome:\/\/flags<\/code> in the address bar and hit Enter.<\/p>\n

Next, enter \u201cReading List\u201d in the search box. This will bring up a flag that\u2019s simply titled \u201cReading List.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the corresponding drop-down menu for the flag, select \u201cDisabled.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chrome will now ask to restart the browser to app<\/a>ly the changes. Click the \u201cRelaunch\u201d button at the bottom of the screen.<\/p>\n

The browser will close, and when it reopens, the \u201cReading List\u201d button will no longer be in the Bookmarks Bar.<\/p>\n

To bring the button back, simply go to the Chrome flag and change it to \u201cDefault\u201d or \u201cEnabled.\u201d It would be nice to have a more \u201cofficial\u201d method of doing this, but until (or if) that comes, this works.<\/p>\n
