\n BRADFORD, NH \u2014 Ghislaine who?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Locals in the sleepy, rural New Hampshire town of Bradford say it was \u201cexciting\u201d to learn that an infamous social<\/a>ite chose their neck of the woods to hide in \u2014 even if some didn\u2019t know who Ghislaine Maxwell was before her bust there Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t know her if she kicked me,\u201d said a host from the local eatery Suna. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty exciting, though,\u201d she said of the case, which has grabbed international headlines.<\/span><\/p>\n

Early Thursday morning, Maxwell\u2019s year on the lam came to a screeching halt when the former Jeffrey Epstein buddy and accused recruiter of underage sex victims was ripped from the bucolic mansion where she\u2019d been hiding on East Washington Road and arrested by officers from the FBI and NYPD.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She had purchased the million-dollar property in the tiny, 1,600-person town with cash under a \u201ccarefully anonymized LLC\u201d in December last year, federal prosecutors said, but was never seen by neighbors.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere were some footprints in the snow over the winter from someone who I guess was hiking,\u201d said a neighbor, whose property abuts Maxwell\u2019s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut I never saw anyone.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

News<\/a> of Maxwell\u2019s high-profile arrest swept through Bradford and the surrounding towns and soon became the hottest piece of gossip by far in the area. <\/span><\/p>\n

From the local Dunkin\u2019 Donuts on Bradford\u2019s East Main Street to the lakeside taverns in nearby Sunapee, everyone had something to say about Maxwell\u2019s arrest.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSomeone said they saw an FBI guy with his badge in the convenience store,\u201d a local waitress told The Post as other staffers clamored around to discuss the story.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhy would she come here? Of all places,\u201d the woman said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A resident who keeps an office down the road from Maxwell\u2019s compound marveled at her decision to choose Bradford as her hideaway.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty cool, but we don\u2019t know anything,\u201d he said.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cWe\u2019ve never seen her.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Locals said there\u2019s \u201cnothing fancy\u201d about Bradford and pointed to a few neighboring towns as possible spots that a socialite such as Maxwell might have liked to frequent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the town of New London, a boutique worker said she\u2019d had \u201csome British customers\u201d but couldn\u2019t say for sure if any were Maxwell or her UK caretaker.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While most residents were enthralled to be part of such an enormous, international story, with some spotted posing for photos at the mouth of Maxwell\u2019s driveway, her next door neighbor was less than thrilled to see his quiet life so loudly disturbed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wish it happ<\/a>ened somewhere else,\u201d he said.<\/span>\n <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
