From the right: Biden Has Killed Bipartisanship<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Biden \u201ccampaigned on a promise to bring Republicans and Democrats together,\u201d but \u201cless than two months into his new administration,\u201d he has killed \u201chope for unity and bipartisanship,\u201d laments Marc A. Thiessen at The Washington Post<\/a>. In ramming through the $1.9 trillion COVID relief package without Republican support, \u201cBiden made a decision not to cooperate.\u201d Democrats believed they \u201chad to act fast if they were going to use the pandemic as a justification for a massive expansion of the welfare state.\u201d This sends a clear message that they \u201cintend to use their historically narrow congressional majorities to ram through as much big government spending as they can before the 2022 midterm elections.\u201d If they do, \u201cJoe Biden \u2014 the president who promised to restore bipartisanship \u2014 will preside over its burial.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iconoclast: Questioning the BLM Curriculum<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe BLM at School movement is gaining momentum in Democratic strongholds around the country,\u201d yet, Conor Friedersdorf complains at The Atlantic<\/a>, much of the material \u201ccrosses a line from education into indoctrination\u201d as it \u201cunapologetically aims to create a new generation of allied activists.\u201d This curriculum \u201crejects individualism and aspirational color-blindness\u201d and \u201cacts in solidarity with projects including decoloniality, anti-capitalism and queer liberation.\u201d One BLM-educated girl\u2019s parent reports: \u201cWhen I tried to explain to her . . . why some families support the police, she wasn\u2019t open to considering that view. She had a blinding certainty that troubled me. She thinks that even raising the question is racist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Science<\/a> beat: The \u2018Chilling Effect\u2019 on Debate<\/strong><\/p>\n

The pandemic and lockdowns have had \u201ca chilling effect on the scientific community,\u201d worry Drs. Martin Kulldorff and Jay Bhattacharya at The Federalist<\/a>. \u201cPoliticians and (alas) scientists have engaged in vicious slander of dissident scientists\u201d and called for \u201ccensorship in place of debate.\u201d The Journal of the American Medical Association, for example, ran an articling \u201cdefaming\u201d Dr. Scott Atlas, a COVID adviser to President Donald Trump, without even engaging Atlas\u2019 \u201cactual scientific views,\u201d after he sought to balance the risks of \u201cviral spread\u201d against \u201charms\u201d from lockdowns. Other prominent scientists were similarly maligned. The \u201cfuture of science\u201d depends on encouraging \u201cvigorous and hard scientific debate\u201d and combating \u201csmears and slander.\u201d If we don\u2019t follow such a course, our \u201c300-year Age of Enlightenment will come to an end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Culture critic: Transgender Issues Need Debate<\/strong><\/p>\n

At The Wall Street Journal, Ryan T. Anderson stresses<\/a> the importance of being able to talk about \u201ctransgender equality\u201d issues, like whether \u201cwomen in dire straits\u201d should be \u201cforced to spend the night\u201d in shelters \u201cwith men who identify as women.\u201d Yet Amazon, which stopped offering Anderson\u2019s book on the subject, \u201cWhen Harry Became Sally,\u201d is using its \u201coutsize market power to prevent readers from accessing one side of this debate.\u201d Meanwhile, little is known about the causes of gender dysphoria, \u201cyet powerful institutions are promoting radical experimental therapies for children.\u201d Yes, we need to \u201crespect\u201d people who identify as transgender, but we also must do \u201ceverything possible to protect young people.\u201d That requires a \u201cbetter conversation about gender-identity issues, and that\u2019s why I wrote my book. No good comes from shutting down\u201d debate.<\/p>\n

Foreign desk: You Can Stop China\u2019s \u2018Genocide\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

In January, the State Department declared that China is waging \u201cgenocide\u201d to \u201cdestroy Muslim Uighurs,\u201d note former US diplomats Keith Krach and Ellie Cohanim at Newsweek.<\/a> And Beijing\u2019s actions \u201cfit the definition of punishable genocide\u201d established by the UN after the Holocaust. Yet \u201cthe free world\u201d \u2014 corporations, universities, pensions \u2014 have not only \u201clooked the other way\u201d but \u201cfinanced\u201d the Chinese Communist Party by, for instance, \u201cproviding access to our capital markets.\u201d Now it\u2019s time to \u201cdo something about it.\u201d Americans should let their \u201cvoice be heard,\u201d since \u201cfear of bad publicity is a powerful motivator.\u201d The world \u201cfailed to stop the Holocaust in the 20th century. We must not be too late to stop the CCP\u2019s genocide in Xinjiang in the 21st.\u201d <\/p>\n
