A New Orleans woman threw a birthday party to \u201ccelebrate\u201d the one-year mark for road work in front of her house \u2014 complete with guests, cake, balloons and a photoshoot.<\/p>\n

\u201cHapp<\/a>y first birthday to our street construction!,\u201d mom and registered nurse Natalie Naquin Harvey wrote last week in a Facebook post<\/a> that has been shared some 800 times.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was one year ago this week when they first began to rip up our street. One year later, half the street is impassable \u2014 just last week, we had a massive, 6-foot-deep hole!\u201d she said of her Lakeview neighborhood street.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo celebrate, I created a replica of the street scene in cake form: two layers of chocolate sponge with peanut butter frosting,\u201d she wrote of the sarcastic shindig.<\/p>\n

Harvey\u2019s entire street is currently torn up, including directly in front of her house, WKRG reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur driveways on my side were blocked for about three months this summer. Now, the other side is blocked, so nearly every house on the opposite side of the street from mine, has their driveways blocked,\u201d Harvey told the station.<\/p>\n

The Louisiana woman blamed a sporadic construction schedule for the prolonged inconvenience and racket.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs an example, they\u2019ll work every day for a week, then there will be two to three weeks with nothing,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe work has definitely picked up in the last couple of weeks. But you never know when it\u2019s going to stop and when it\u2019s going to start back up again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Commenters took the prank in good humor, with many saying the bayou bureaucracy was all too relatable.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve seen road work last 2-4 years in Louisiana. Especially in residential areas,\u201d one person wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cA committee will have to be formed to investigate the delays first\u2026,\u201d quipped another.<\/p>\n

Others said the road maintenance mini-Mardi Gras was fitting for the festive Crescent City.<\/p>\n

\u201cSounds about right, but look at you knowing how to turn anything into a party,\u201d a commenter said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
