An NYPD cop who was suspended without pay last year for allegedly using an illegal chokehold has a new legal tangle on his hands.<\/p>\n

Officer David Afanador \u2014 who is awaiting trial for the June 21 alleged chokehold incident on a Queens boardwalk \u2014 was arrested Sunday morning and charged with firing a .9mm semi-automatic handgun into the ocean on Long Island, sources told The Post.<\/p>\n

Afanador was arrested by Long Beach police officers around 7 a.m. after cops received a 911 call regarding shots fired on the boardwalk near Frankly Boulevard, the sources said. <\/p>\n

Charges were pending in the case.<\/p>\n

Long Beach police and the NYPD did not immedia<\/a>tely respond to requests for comment and information Sunday. <\/p>\n

Afanador could also not be reached for comment. <\/p>\n

The 40-year-old cop pleaded not guilty in the chokehold case on June 25. <\/p>\n

Afanador, a 15-year veteran of the force at the time, was also charged with pistol-whipping a teenager in 2016 but was acquitted in that case.<\/p>\n
