\n HOOVER, Ala. \u2014 A shooting at an Alabama shopping mall left at least four people hospitalized Friday afternoon, police said.<\/p>\n

Multiple shots were reported near the food court inside the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover, Police Capt. Gregg Rector said in a news<\/a> release. He said the victims were hospitalized for treatment. \u201cTheir conditions are unknown at this time,\u201d authorities said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know at this point what led to the shooting or how many gunmen were involved,\u201d Rector added.<\/p>\n

Authorities did not say whether anyone had been arrested.<\/p>\n

The mall has been evacuated \u201cand the scene is secure,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n

Annalisa Pope, who works at Hollister in the mall, told WBMA-TV in a telephone interview that she heard six to seven shots fired.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t just one or two,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s what got me off guard. They (the shots) just kept going.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said the gunshots \u201csounded like they were coming from every direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoover police asked anyone was in the mall who witnessed the shooting to call authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt so close,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was so surreal. It doesn\u2019t even feel real right now. You wouldn\u2019t expect something like that to happ<\/a>en out of nowhere on a normal, Friday afternoon.\u201d<\/p>\n

The mall in suburban Birmingham was the site of a 2018 police shooting where an officer fatally shot a Black man with a gun after mistaking him for the gunman in an earlier shooting at the mall.<\/p>\n

The shooting of 21-year-old Emantic \u201cEJ\u201d Bradford Jr. prompted a series<\/a> of protests at the mall. The Alabama attorney general<\/a>\u2019s office cleared the officer, saying he acted \u201creasonably under the circumstances\u201d in the encounter that spanned approximately five seconds.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are heartbroken by the tragic, senseless incident that took place in our shopping center this afternoon,\u201d the mall said in a statement Friday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
