A Las Vegas couple claimed their 8-year-old son tried to kill himself \u2014 but were soon charged with his murder when investigators discovered his \u201cphysical abuse\u201d injuries, police said.<\/p>\n

Cops in Las Vegas got a 911 call from Leon Gritz, 27, early Saturday from an apartment complex where the man said his son had attempted suicide. <\/p>\n

Responding cops and paramedics found the young boy unresponsive and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A subsequent investigation revealed that the boy had \u201csubstantial injuries\u201d believed to be the result of \u201cphysical abuse and neglect\u201d by Gritz and the child\u2019s 28-year-old mother, Christina Gritz, police said.<\/p>\n

The pair were taken into custody on one count of open murder. They remained held without bond Monday at the Clark County Detention Center on a first-degree murder charge, online records show.<\/p>\n

The identity of the couple\u2019s son, as well as his cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner\u2019s Office, police said.<\/p>\n

A spokeswoman at the coroner\u2019s office said she had no additional information to provide on the case when reached by The Post early Monday.<\/p>\n

The couple had their initial court app<\/a>earance set for Sunday, KVVU reported<\/a>. They are expected to return on Tuesday, records show. It\u2019s unclear if they\u2019ve hired attorneys who could speak on their behalf.\n <\/div>\n
