While director Chad Stahelski has been behind the camera of every John Wick<\/em> movie and Keanu Reeves is obviously the face of the franchise, the whole thing began with Derek Kolstad<\/strong>. The screenwriter wrote the original screenplay and concocted this entire world of international assassins, cool hotels, mysterious monetary denominations, and bulletproof suits. But it sounds like Kolstad\u2019s time with the franchise is over, because in a new interview, he has revealed that he will not be writing the script<\/a>s for the previously announced\u00a0John Wick 4<\/strong><\/em> and John Wick 5<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

And if you\u2019re dying for more info about the John Wick<\/em> spin-off TV series<\/a> The Continental<\/strong><\/em>, it sounds like you won\u2019t have to wait very long before you hear some concrete information about it.<\/span><\/p>\n

In an interview with Collider<\/a>, Kolstad was asked where he was in the writing process of John Wick 4<\/em> and John Wick<\/em> 5<\/em>, but he surprisingly responded, \u201cI\u2019m actually not involved in four and five.\u201d
\n\u201cAt a certain stage of the studio will tell you, your creation is graduated, and you wish it well,\u201d Kolstad explained. \u201cI\u2019m still close with Chad, still close with Dave, and I don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to happen, but I\u2019m excited to see.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the writer, it was not his plan to step away from the franchise \u2013 that\u2019s a call that was made by Lionsgate.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, it wasn\u2019t my decision,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen you think of the [contracts] of these things, the third one I shared the credit with any number of people, they didn\u2019t have to come back to me, and so they didn\u2019t. And so you look at that and you could be hurt, and I would \u2013 say, if I was 20 years ago \u2013 I would have been, but seeing what the industry is and how things go, I just believe that you bless everything and hope it all the best, and to the players involved who are doing other things elsewhere. And yeah, it\u2019s personal, so I\u2019m never going to talk shit about\u00a0John Wick<\/em>. I want this thing to survive and thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0John Wick<\/em>\u00a0franchise plans to expand beyond the fourth and fifth movies with\u00a0Ballerina<\/em>, the\u00a0first spin-off movie\u00a0set in that universe.\u00a0Live Free or Die Hard<\/em>\u00a0director\u00a0Len Wiseman<\/strong>\u00a0is directing that film, which \u201cfocuses on a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.\u201d And don\u2019t forget about the long-gestating TV series\u00a0The Continental<\/em>, set at the movie\u2019s chain of sleek assassin-only hotels.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re about to make some pretty large announcements in the next couple of weeks in regards to what\u2019s going to happen there,\u201d Kolstad said about the TV series. He confirmed that it is still happening, and also revealed that \u201c[The show is] about how deep the world goes, and not just about assassins but everything that\u2019s included. And a lot of the origin stories are some of the characters that you see in [John Wick<\/em>].\u201d Stay tuned.
