An artist has sold a house that no one can ever live in for $500,000.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because the house is virtual \u2013 it\u2019s a digital file traded online just like Bitcoin.<\/p>\n

It sounds bizarre, but it\u2019s part of a new online trading craze.<\/p>\n

Buyers are swapp<\/a>ing something called NFTs, which are swapped like Bitcoin.<\/p>\n

But unlike Bitcoin, each NFT is totally unique \u2013 so if you buy one, you\u2019re the only person with it in the world.<\/p>\n

Now\u00a0CNBC\u00a0has revealed<\/a> that artist Krista Kim has sold an \u201cNFT-minted\u201d\u00a0digital house<\/a>\u00a0for 288 ether.<\/p>\n

That works out at around $500,000.<\/p>\n

The virtual home is called Mars House, and can be viewed in virtual or augmented reality.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, a lot of the [NFT} art that\u2019s currently available on platforms, it\u2019s a very limited parameter of how you can present the art,\u201d said Kim, speaking to CNBC.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s presented, basically, as a digital file, a beautiful drawing or video on your screen.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut my intention was to look beyond that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The buyer can upload the file into 3D worlds to experience it \u2013 and even explore it using AR or VR goggles.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually foresee that we will be living in an augmented reality lifestyle within a very short period,\u201d Kim added.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first wacky NFT sale we\u2019ve seen.<\/p>\n

Twitter<\/a> founder Jack Dorsey is selling his first tweet as an NFT for millions.<\/p>\n

Elon Musk has made a techno song that he\u2019s selling as an NFT.<\/p>\n

And Gucci is even selling virtual trainers that no one can actually wear.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
