“#Trump announces creation of \u2018National Garden\u2019 with statues of \u2018greatest Americans\u2019<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n President Trump concluded his Friday night Mount Rushmore speech by announcing he has signed an executive order creating a \u201cNational Garden of American Heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president described the garden as a \u201cvast outdoor park that will feature the statues of the greatest Americans who ever lived.\u201d<\/p>\n

An interagency task force will look for potential sites, and the Department of the Interior will provide funding for the garden, which should be open before July 4, 2026 \u2014 the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.<\/p>\n

The executive order reads: \u201cThe National Garden should be composed of statues, including statues of John Adams, Susan B. Anthony, Clara Barton, Daniel Boone, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, Henry Clay, Davy Crockett, Frederick Douglass, Amelia Earhart, Benjamin Franklin, Billy Graham, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Douglas MacArthur, Dolley Madison, James Madison, Christa McAuliffe, Audie Murphy, George S. Patton, Jr., Ronald Reagan, Jackie Robinson, Betsy Ross, Antonin Scalia, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Harriet Tubman, Booker T. Washington, George Washington, and Orville and Wilbur Wright.\u201d<\/p>\n

The order notes, \u201cnone will have lived perfect lives, but all will be worth honoring, remembering, and studying.\u201d<\/p>\n

The order also notes the recent toppling and vandalization of historic monuments across the country amid racial injustice protests.<\/p>\n

Many of the targeted statues involved Confederate military heroes and historical figures who owned slaves or caused harm to Native Americans.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy Administration will not abide by an assault on our collective national memory,\u201d the order says.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the face of such acts of destruction, it is our responsibility as Americans to stand strong against this violence, and to peacefully transmit our great national story to future generations through newly commissioned monuments to American heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump, in his pre-firework show speech, expressed similar sentiments, blasting what he called the \u201cangry mobs\u201d who \u201care trying to tear down statues of our founders.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
