\n Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau might be skipping the United States\u2013Mexico\u2013Canada Agreement (USMCA) summit in Washington DC next week.<\/p>\n

Comments made by Trudeau on Friday indicated he intended to stay in Canada due to the recent uptick in the coronavirus cases in the United States.<\/p>\n

He also cited US threats to re-impose a 10 percent tariff on Canadian aluminum \u2014 part of Washington\u2019s efforts to limit exports, says Politico.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re obviously concerned about the proposed issue of tariffs on aluminum and steel that the Americans have floated recently. We\u2019re also concerned about the health situation and the coronavirus reality that is still hitting all three of our countries,\u201d says Trudeau.<\/p>\n

Trump had lifted aluminum and steel tariffs on Canada \u2014 and Mexico \u2014 last year as part of USMCA negotiations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we simply highlight is the United States needs Canadian aluminum. They do not produce enough, nowhere near enough aluminum in the States, to be able to fill their domestic manufacturing needs.\u201d<\/p>\n
