William Shatner was about to take the stage of London\u2019s Eventim Apollo Theatre on March 16, 2020, when the British prime minister made a frightening announcement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThat afternoon, Boris Johnson said everything\u2019s locked down \u2014 no more than 500 people,\u201d Shatner told The Post of his first encounter with the coronavirus pandemic. \u201cIt was a sold-out audience: 3,500 people waiting for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the \u201cStar Trek\u201d\u00a0actor, who turned 90 on Monday, has never been the sort to twiddle his thumbs and stand idly by. Captain Kirk got to work.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wrote a song, \u2018Monday in London,\u2019 about wondering when the audience will be there, whether there would be any audience,\u201d the occasional musician said. \u201cI stepped out in front of the curtain, and 3,500 people had stayed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, that uncertain day marked a radical change for the artist, who\u2019s moved at warp speed since he first donned the yellow captain\u2019s uniform on \u201cStar Trek\u201d in 1966. The rest of his tour through the UK, like all other live performances, was canceled, and he\u2019s been back at home in Southern California since then with his two dogs, one of whom loudly made himself known during a Zoom interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s my male dog doing his Doberman best to protect us from other dogs,\u201d he said. \u201cOther dogs \u2026 you never know what another dog\u2019s going to do!\u201d<\/p>\n

The animal lover added: \u201cThe female dog, we just had spayed. We\u2019re waiting for her to poop.\u201d<\/p>\n

Just like that unexpectedly productive afternoon in London, Shatner, who was recently vaccinated, has been dabbling in a vast array of projects from the comfort of his house.<\/p>\n

Right now, he\u2019s promoting his new comedy film called \u201cSenior Moment,\u201d out Friday, in which he plays Victor, a Palm Springs, California, hotshot who defiantly refuses to show his age. (Smart casting.) In the film, the \u201cStar Trek\u201d actor romances Jean Smart, who is 21 years his junior.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s beautiful!,\u201d he said. \u201cHere\u2019s this beautiful woman who\u2019s talented and a great joy! We just had the best time together. I love her.\u201d<\/p>\n
