Claudia Conway is reframing her narrative \u2014 by using her own voice to navigate the rough waters of online infamy.<\/p>\n

The troubled TikTok teen\u2019s first official \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d competition performance came with its own one-woman cheering squad: her mom, former Trump administration spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway.<\/p>\n

Claudia app<\/a>eared to have taken judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie\u2019s previous advice to silence all the \u201cnegativity that surrounded her\u201d so she could focus on her vocal potential \u2014 and what she<\/em> wanted out of her suddenly high-profile existence.<\/p>\n

The newly raven-haired 16-year-old told viewers on Sunday that she feels it\u2019s the \u201cmost important thing in the world\u201d to establish her own identity \u2014 through music. In the pre-taped intro package, when Kellyanne offered Claudia some \u201cconstructive criticism\u201d about singing, the younger Conway quipped: \u201cStay in politics, I\u2019ll do the music.\u201d<\/p>\n

But with her proud mom cheering her on, she then proceeded to belt out a passionate rendition of \u201cRiver\u201d by Bishop Briggs <\/a>during her Genre Challenge performance for Hollywood Week.<\/p>\n

The trio of judges approved \u2014 and moved Claudia on to the next round while her mom went slow-burn ham like any other crazy-proud parent in the audience.<\/p>\n

The New Jersey high school student\u2019s revelatory performance came after reports that ABC was in \u201ccrisis mode\u201d over the high-profile TikTok teen pulling focus from other contestants. Rumors swirled after her initial appearance\u00a0was branded \u201cexploitative\u201d because it appeared to capitalize<\/a> on her serious struggles with mom Kellyanne, 54, which included a police investigation after a nude photo of her daughter was posted on social media in January.<\/p>\n

However, the notorious social-media star made it through to the second round after a rough audition in February in which she wore a skimpy bandana and warbled a wobbly rendition of Rihanna\u2019s \u201cLove on the Brain.\u201d<\/a> Judge Katy Perry promptly interrupted Conway\u2019s first tryout, telling her to slip off her sparkly stilettos and try a different tune.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to calm the storm that is around you,\u201d Perry warned her at the time, \u201cbecause if you sing like you want to read the social-media comments afterwards, you\u2019re only ever gonna be a TikTok star.\u201d<\/p>\n

Claudia went on to redeem herself with a take on Adele\u2019s \u201cWhen We Were Young,\u201d moving her proud papa \u2014 anti-Trump lawyer George Conway, 57 \u2014 to tears, as he listened just outside the audition room. \u201cShe loves music,\u201d he said, choking up in February. \u201cIt makes me happy to see her here doing this.\u201d<\/p>\n

But is was Mama who showed up for daughter in Sunday\u2019s episode, offering unsolicited singing tips (\u201cthat was a little flat\u201d) that Claudia politely declined with a series<\/a> of eye rolls before her mother smothered her in celebratory post-performance hugs. <\/p>\n

Kellyanne \u2014 who reportedly has a multimillion dollar book deal<\/a> in the works \u2014 even busted out a few bars from Alicia Keys\u2019 2012 anthem \u201cGirl on Fire\u201d to cheer on her little girl.<\/p>\n
