into Americans\u2019 bank accounts and mailboxes.<\/p>\n<p> Many Americans will put the money towards essential expenses such as food, rent\/mortgage payments and utilities \u2014 but some Americans who already have those expenses covered might consider putting some of their stimulus money towards Bitcoin, a new car, vacations or new clothes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Americans have complete freedom to decide how they spend their stimulus checks, but consumer advocates advise caution on some tempting purchases.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bitcoin_and_meme-stocks\"><\/span><strong>Bitcoin and meme-stocks<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>Some $40 billion worth of stimulus money is estimated to go towards purchasing Bitcoin<br \/>\n        BTCUSD,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/31322028\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+1.50%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       according to a recent Mizuho Securities survey. Prior to the latest $1.9-trillion stimulus package, the cryptocurrency was already at all-time highs.<\/p>\n<p>But the demand stemming from stimulus checks will only push Bitcoin\u2019s value higher in the short-term, said James Ledbetter, editor of fintech <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>letter FIN. The gaming stock is also considerably less ubiquitous in Reddit stock trading forums than it was earlier this year, he noted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_new_or_used_car_down_payment\"><\/span><strong>A new or used car down payment\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>It may be tempting to say \u2018When I get my stimmy, I\u2019m going to finally put down my first downpayment for a car.\u2019<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>While the $1,400 check won\u2019t cover the bulk of initial loan down payments most people pay for a car, even if it does, it\u2019s still a good idea not to put it towards a car down payment, Georgiev said.<\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"inline\n                \" data-layout-mobile=\"\" class=\"\n          media-object\n          type-InsetPullQuote\n            inline\n    scope-web|mobileapps\n  article__inset\n          article__inset--type-InsetPullQuote\n            article__inset--inline\n  \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"wsj-article-pullquote article__inset__pullquote \">\n<p class=\"pullquote-content article__inset__pullquote__quote\">\n        <span class=\"l-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--left\">\u201c<\/span><br \/>\n        \u2018By getting loan on a new or used car, you actually are making yourself poorer\u2019<br \/>\n        <span class=\"r-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--right\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>        <small><br \/>\n          <span class=\"inset-author article__inset__pullquote__author\">\u2014 Ilian Georgiev, CEO of Charlie, a payment planning app<\/span><br \/>\n        <\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       (Used car loan down payments on average amount to no more than 11% of the car\u2019s total price, which last year was around $21,000, according to Edmunds <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.edmunds.com\/industry\/press\/used-vehicle-prices-are-on-the-rise-during-the-coronavirus-pandemic-according-to-edmunds.html\" class=\"icon none\">data<\/a>. The down payment for new cars tends to be a bit higher (11.7%) for new cars, according to Edmunds.)<\/p>\n<p> \u201cYour income hasn\u2019t really changed \u2014 your debt-to-income ratio is still the same,\u201d he said referring to the stimulus check funds. \u201cBy getting a loan on a new or used car, you actually are making yourself poorer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When you take out a new loan, \u201cyou\u2019re effectively working for someone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that you can afford a down payment doesn\u2019t mean that you\u2019re going to be getting ahead. It means that now your disposable income going forward is going to be even lower because interest payments.\u201d<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Summer_vacations\"><\/span><strong>Summer vacations\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not revised its <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/travelers\/travel-during-covid19.html\" class=\"icon none\">advisory against non-essential travel<\/a> even for people who have been vaccinated against COVID.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Airport checkpoint data published by the Transportation Security Administration suggests that people have been ignoring the advisory lately, especially as more Americans become fully vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>But when it comes to summer excursions, consumers may actually get better rates for domestic trips if they hold off booking until mid-April or early May, said Adit Damodaran, an economist at Hopper, a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>-booking app.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDomestic airfare prices are currently averaging $240 round-trip,\u201d Damodaran told MarketWatch based on Hopper data. He said he expects prices to \u201cremain low until early May, increasing roughly 12% leading into the summer months to around $257 round-trip.\u201d<\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"inline\n                \" data-layout-mobile=\"\" class=\"\n          media-object\n          type-InsetPullQuote\n            inline\n    scope-web|mobileapps\n  article__inset\n          article__inset--type-InsetPullQuote\n            article__inset--inline\n  \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"wsj-article-pullquote article__inset__pullquote \">\n<p class=\"pullquote-content article__inset__pullquote__quote\">\n        <span class=\"l-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--left\">\u201c<\/span><br \/>\n        \u2018If you\u2019re trying to book something now, especially to another country, you\u2019re better off waiting until things return to normal again\u2019<br \/>\n        <span class=\"r-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--right\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>        <small><br \/>\n          <span class=\"inset-author article__inset__pullquote__author\">\u2014 Julie Ramhold, consumer analyst with DealNews.com<\/span><br \/>\n        <\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       If you\u2019re thinking about traveling internationally, you should keep in mind that the country you have your eye on could reinstitute a national lockdown that bars tourists from visiting, which is currently the case in Ireland and Italy.<\/p>\n<p> Others are more lenient on the issue. \u201cIf you can book travel far enough out, and one of the online travel agencies is having a sale, it\u2019s perfectly reasonable to put your stimulus check towards a trip,\u201d said Julie Ramhold, consumer analyst with<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/dealnews.com\" class=\"icon none\"> DealNews.com<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if you\u2019re trying to book something now, especially to another country, you\u2019re better off waiting until things return to normal again.\u201d<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Spring_apparel\"><\/span><strong>Spring apparel\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>In the first round of stimulus checks last year, many consumers used their stimulus checks to purchase new clothes, retail data showed. <\/p>\n<p>They may have even scored deals comparable to Black Friday since retailers heavily discounted inventory that couldn\u2019t be sold during initial lockdowns.<\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"inline\n                \" data-layout-mobile=\"\" class=\"\n          media-object\n          type-InsetPullQuote\n            inline\n    scope-web|mobileapps\n  article__inset\n          article__inset--type-InsetPullQuote\n            article__inset--inline\n  \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"wsj-article-pullquote article__inset__pullquote \">\n<p class=\"pullquote-content article__inset__pullquote__quote\">\n        <span class=\"l-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--left\">\u201c<\/span><br \/>\n        \u2018Retailers are currently stocking the shelves with new inventory that won\u2019t be discounted for a few months.\u2019<br \/>\n        <span class=\"r-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--right\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>        <small><br \/>\n          <span class=\"inset-author article__inset__pullquote__author\">\u2014 Sara Skirboll, RetailMeNot\u2019s shopping and trends expert,<\/span><br \/>\n        <\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       This time around, you should hold off on purchasing new spring clothes, said RetailMeNot\u2019s shopping and trends expert, Sara Skirboll.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cMarch is the official start to spring and retailers are currently stocking the shelves with new inventory that won\u2019t be discounted for a few months into the spring and summer,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_iPhone_12\"><\/span><strong>The iPhone 12<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>Even though the battery on your iPhone that you\u2019ve had for several years might be getting consumed faster each day, if you can, don\u2019t rush to buy Apple\u2019s<br \/>\n        AAPL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202934861\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.46%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       latest iPhone 12 which starts at $799, experts say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this point in the year, unless you need a new phone, you\u2019re better off waiting,\u201d Ramhold said. \u201cApple will likely have its typical September event where it announces the successor to the iPhone 12. Once that happens, we can expect prices to drop at least a little bit on the iPhone 12, so it\u2019s worth holding off for now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(Apple didn\u2019t respond to MarketWatch\u2019s request for a comment.)<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>, electronics tend to go on sale on long weekends like Memorial Day or Amazon\u2019s Prime Day<br \/>\n        AMZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210331248\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.87%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Skirboll said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Outdoor_furniture\"><\/span><strong>Outdoor furniture\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>With people working from home and spending more time at home, it obviously makes sense that folks want to be comfortable as the warm weather approaches.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s why this is the wrong time to buy outdoor furniture.
