“#’Jeopardy!’ Guest Host Dr. Oz on What He Learned From Watching Alex Trebek (VIDEO)<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

For the latest guest host for Jeopardy!<\/em><\/a>, Dr. Mehmet Oz<\/a>, saying \u201cyes\u201d was a no-brainer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t have to even pass Go, collect $200 or think about it for more than a second,\u201d the physician, author and television personality tells TV Insider. And while he is a fan of the game<\/a> show, he says \u201cI became close to Alex Trebek<\/a> over my career in television, not just because I used to play the game as a younger adult with my kids but also because I respected what he was able to do as a host of the show.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, he used to watch Trebek host from backstage. \u201cI would marvel at how he made it look easy \u2014 which, by the way, it is not,\u201d Oz shares. \u201cI can attest to you, having hosted the show 10 times now, that it\u2019s a bit of a challenge and you need a little training.\u201d<\/p>\n

And it was in watching Trebek that he learned the most important message about hosting Jeopardy!<\/em>: \u201cYou need to make the contestants feel comfortable.\u201d Trebek did that very well, thanks to what Oz calls his \u201cvery calming demeanor.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Oz, walking onto the set as a guest host was \u201calmost eerie,\u201d he admits. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t feel right. First, Alex should be doing it. But also you don\u2019t think you\u2019re in the right spot at the right time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The team behind Jeopardy!<\/em> helped him feel comfortable, but Oz also had to learn to make adjustments from being a viewer of the show and listening to the contestants\u2019 responses to hosting it (\u201coh, it\u2019s so cool, he got the right answer\u201d versus \u201ccorrect\u201d and moving on. \u201cI get caught up in the game sometimes,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
