This can prevent the accidental leaking of confidential information to others\u2014or just save you from a world of embarrassment in your next Zoom, FaceTime, or Skype video call.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Try_Video_Conferencing_Tools_Built-in_Option\"><\/span>Try Video Conferencing Tool\u2019s Built-in Option<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Depending on which video conferencing tool you\u2019re using, you may be able to enable a setting that blocks certain notifications. Zoom, for example, lets you block system notifications while you\u2019re sharing your screen. You\u2019ll find this option at Settings &gt; Share Screen &gt; Silence system notifications when sharing desktop.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is that it doesn\u2019t always block\u00a0all notifications\u2014Slack DMs and Skype messages being among those notifications that still get shown while sharing your screen in Zoom.<\/p>\n<p>While it may be inconvenient, the most effective way to ensure no embarrassing or confidential messages are shared during virtual meetings is to mute notifications directly in each app you use.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mute_Your_Chat_App_Notifications\"><\/span>Mute Your Chat App Notifications<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There\u2019s arguably nothing worse than when you receive a private message from a coworker or friend and that message is shared with everyone in the video conference. One of the first things you should do to prevent this from happening is to uninstall any and all chat apps used for personal reasons from your work computer.<\/p>\n<p>For applications used for work (such as Slack or Skype,) you\u2019ll need to go straight into the app itself and silence notifications.<\/p>\n<p>In Slack, for example, just click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen and hover your cursor over Pause Notifications. Then click the length of time you\u2019d like to pause notifications in the Do Not Disturb group.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-717290\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Do-not-disturb-time-increments-in-Slack.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"545\" height=\"364\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In Skype, the process is similar. Click the status icon (green, yellow, or red dot) and then click \u201cDo Not Disturb\u201d from the menu.\u00a0You\u2019ll see a message telling you that you won\u2019t receive notifications about incoming messages. Click \u201cOK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-717291\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Do-not-disturb-option-in-Skype.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"331\" height=\"246\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>In most popular chat apps for work, the option to pause notifications is easily accessible by clicking your profile image. If it\u2019s not, you may need to visit the app\u2019s settings. You can also perform a quick web search for \u201cPause notifications\u201d followed by the name of your app. This will likely give you the instructions you need.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Disable_System_Notifications\"><\/span>Disable System Notifications<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We mentioned that your video conferencing software may be able to mute system notifications. But, \u201csome\u201d isn\u2019t the same as \u201call.\u201d If you receive an email or if it\u2019s time to update your computer, your system may notify you depending on the permissions you\u2019ve given it. If the video conferencing software you\u2019re using doesn\u2019t give you an option to mute system notifications while sharing your screen, then you\u2019ll want to do it manually.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Disable_Windows_10_System_Notifications\"><\/span>Disable Windows 10 System Notifications<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>To quickly silence all system notifications in Windows 10, click the Notifications icon to the right of the Windows toolbar.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-719618 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/click-notifications.png\" alt=\"Notifications Icon in Windows 10\" width=\"292\" height=\"149\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>At the top of the notification pane that appears, click \u201cManage Notifications.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-717726\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Manage-notifications-button-in-notifications-menu.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"386\" height=\"255\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll now be in the Notifications &amp; Actions pane in the Settings app. Under the \u201cGet notifications from apps and other senders\u201d setting in the Notifications group, toggle the slider to the left.
