This\u00a0David Dobrik<\/strong> controversy is murky and complicated and, well, frankly hard to understand for a lot of people. First off, there\u2019s the strange pocket of fame he\u2019s in: he\u2019s one of the most famous people online, making literally millions<\/em> of dollars a year from brand deals and ads on his vlog\u2026 and your mom probably has no idea who he is. Just ask her.<\/p>\n

Then try to\u00a0explain<\/em> why he\u2019s famous. LOLz! And that the kind of frat boy atmosphere his Vlog Squad<\/strong> got famous is all too similar to the kind of environment that not only typically allows sexual assault but often cheers it on. And now it IS<\/i> his crew who just got hit with a sexual assault accusation.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s where\u00a0Ireland Baldwin<\/strong> is at with the controversy. The model took to her\u00a0Instagram Story<\/strong> on Tuesday, seemingly to wonder aloud about the\u00a0YouTube<\/a><\/strong> star and his latest scandal. She wrote over a pic of her staring contemplatively:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so f**king deep in this David Dobrik s**t I don\u2019t even know what\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But she wasn\u2019t done. She went HARD at the 24-year-old influencer, railing:<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do these nerds graduate high school and become YouTube famous and make millions of dollars jerking off and eating McDonalds and farting on their friends and get millions of people to tune in.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She then quipped:<\/p>\n

\u201cImagine saying you\u2019re in a f**king VLOG SQUAD.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ooooof, SAVAGE!<\/p>\n

We have to say, she\u2019s not wrong. Kids should get famous the right way: by having both parents be insanely good-looking, international movie stars.<\/p>\n

Seriously, though, the messenger may not be the best choice for questioning their fame bona fides, but when she got to the heart of the matter, she was dead on.<\/p>\n

For those who still haven\u2019t seen, Dobrik\u2019s former Vlog Squad member Dominykas Zeglaitis<\/strong>, AKA Durte Dom<\/strong>, was accused of forcing himself on a girl who was too intoxicated to consent \u2014 while Dobrik and his pals laughed and filmed a video about it.<\/p>\n

Ireland made the excellent point that it would be gross even if it wasn\u2019t<\/em> outright criminal:<\/p>\n

\u201cThose f**king videos of David Dobrik and his friends are f**king disgusting. that didn\u2019t happ<\/a>en that long ago. Take away the alcohol. Add all of the consent in the world\u2026 you\u2019re still making a video of a grown man watching young girls having s*x with your friends and reacting\u2026 for what? For all the young boys and girls who aspire to be like you to do the same?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This is the kind of atmosphere we\u2019re trying to clean up on college campuses, but it\u2019s being rewarded with sponsorships and brand deals when it\u2019s entertainment for teens?\u00a0Tweens<\/em> even??<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t know if Dobrik should be treated as an accessory to sexual assault \u2014 but he should be judged for creating the kind of toxic environment where it was allowed to happen. And for turning that environment into a hit show that millions of kids watch.<\/p>\n
