aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       AstraZeneca PLC, which has been under fire for the accuracy of its data, on Wednesday night announced updated Phase 3 trial data of its coronavirus vaccine, saying it\u2019s 76% effective at preventing symptomatic COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p> AstraZeneca<br \/>\n        AZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/200304487\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-1.23%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       also said its vaccine had 100% efficacy against severe disease and hospitalizations, and that for patients older than 65, it had 85% efficacy against the virus.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       \u201cPositive high-level results from the primary analysis of the Phase III trial of AZD1222 in the U.S. have confirmed vaccine efficacy consistent with the pre-specified interim analysis announced on Monday,\u201d the company said<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.astrazeneca.com\/content\/astraz\/media-centre\/press-releases\/2021\/azd1222-us-phase-iii-primary-analysis-confirms-safety-and-efficacy.html\" class=\"icon none\"> in a statement,<\/a> adding that it would submit its data for emergency-use authorization to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the British drug maker said its vaccine had a\u00a079% efficacy rate. But Monday night, the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said it was concerned that AstraZeneca had released \u201coutdated information,\u201d and the company was accused of cherry-picking data.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the company said the figures were based on a \u201cpre-specified interim analysis\u201d and said it would share the results of \u201ca primary analysis with the most up-to-date efficacy data\u201d on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier Wednesday, Dr. Anthony Fauci \u2014 who is the head of the NIAID \u2014 said AstraZeneca\u2019s vaccine is good, even if its efficacy rate wasn\u2019t as high as it originally claimed. \u201cAt the end of the day, you know, when you look at the data, this is going to turn out to be a good vaccine,\u201d Fauci said during Wednesday\u2019s White House COVID-19 briefing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe primary analysis is consistent with our previously released interim analysis, and confirms that our COVID-19 vaccine is highly effective in adults,\u201d AstraZeneca executive Mene Pangalos said in a statement Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>AstraZeneca\u2019s vaccine has also been the subject of worry over possible blood clots.
