If you recently got a new Mac, you might not see your Pictures folder in the \u201cFavorites\u201d sidebar of Finder anymore. But don\u2019t worry, it\u2019s still there. Here\u2019s how to find the Pictures folder\u2014and how to add it to your sidebar again.<\/p>\n

First, bring Finder to the foreground by clicking its icon in your Dock.<\/p>\n

In the menu bar at the top of the screen, select \u201cGo,\u201d then choose \u201cHome\u201d from the menu that app<\/a>ears. Or, alternately, you can press Shift+Command+H on your keyboard.<\/p>\n

When your Home window opens in Finder, locate the \u201cPictures\u201d folder. Double-click the icon to open it.<\/p>\n

For easier access to the \u201cPictures\u201d folder in the future, click and drag the \u201cPictures\u201d folder icon to the \u201cFavorites\u201d section of the Finder\u2019s sidebar.<\/p>\n

While you\u2019re hovering over the sidebar, the folder icon will turn into a small placement indicator. When you have the indicator pointing where you\u2019d like in the list, release your mouse button. The \u201cPictures\u201d folder will appear at that spot in your \u201cFavorites\u201d list.<\/p>\n

You can also add the Pictures folder to your Finder sidebar using another method. With Finder active, click \u201cFinder\u201d > \u201cPreferences\u201d in the menu bar. With \u201cPreferences\u201d open, select \u201cSidebar,\u201d then place a checkmark beside \u201cPictures\u201d in the list.<\/p>\n

This method is handy because it allows you to add other special folders that might be missing to your taskbar, such as \u201cMusic\u201d or \u201cMovies<\/a>.\u201d When you\u2019re done, close Finder Preferences.<\/p>\n

From now on, any time you want to quickly visit your Pictures folder, just open any Finder window and click the \u201cPictures\u201d shortcut in the sidebar. (And now that you know where it is, you can also find your Photos Library with ease, if you ever need to.)<\/p>\n
