Zoey\u2019s Extraordinary Playlist<\/em><\/a> stars Andrew Leeds<\/a> and Alice Lee<\/a>, who play new (in Season 2) parents David and Emily, are just as excited about Bernadette Peters\u2019<\/a> return as you are.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got to be in a scene with her this time and we got to see her do her thing, live in front of us, over and over and over again, so that was exciting,\u201d Leeds recently shared with reporters.<\/p>\n

Peters app<\/a>eared in Season 1 as Deb, who became friends with David and Zoey\u2019s (Jane Levy<\/a>) mother Maggie (Mary Steenburgen). Deb and Maggie are (now) both widowers; the latter\u2019s husband, Mitch (Peter Gallagher<\/a>) was still alive when they met. (He died in the heartbreaking Season 1 finale.)<\/p>\n

Also, there will be more about Mitch when the NBC musical dramedy returns with new episodes on Sunday, March 28, plus more about the past and Zoey\u2019s relationship with Max (Skylar Astin<\/a>) \u2014 they hit pause earlier this season.<\/p>\n

Leeds and Lee both teased \u201cdifferent\u201d musical numbers coming up, for Emily solo (including one with a dance number) and for their characters together. And speaking of them as a couple, they\u2019ll remain solid going forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey go through their own stuff, but we still get to see how they work through it together,\u201d Lee previewed. \u201cNo matter what, they [decide], \u2018Let\u2019s figure this out.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of my favorite moments in this season so far, is when [Emily] sings \u2018I\u2019ll Stand By You\u2019 \u2014 which I didn\u2019t get to watch because I was faced away from her \u2014 but when I got to see it onscreen, it was such a beautiful, moving [number], and she\u2019s incredible,\u201d Leeds added. \u201cTo me that so clearly defines their relationship. They really do try to be there for each other in a very committed way.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to them rekindling the romance in their relationship, look for David to join a garage band \u201cin the most pathetic of ways,\u201d Leeds said. And \u201cEmily goes through some postpartum [as part of] her journey as a parent, [which is] also about their relationship and how they navigate what she\u2019s going through,\u201d according to Lee.<\/p>\n
