Twitter<\/a> doesn\u2019t have a \u201ccensoring department\u201d that blocked The Post from tweeting last fall, CEO Jack Dorsey said Thursday \u2014 but he wouldn\u2019t reveal who was responsible for the blunder.<\/p>\n

At a congressional hearing on misinformation and social media, Dorsey said Twitter made a \u201ctotal mistake\u201d by barring users from sharing The Post\u2019s bombshell October report about Hunter Biden\u2019s emails.<\/p>\n

Twitter also locked The Post out of its account for more than two weeks over baseless charges that the expos\u00e9 used hacked information \u2014 a decision Dorsey chalked up to a \u201cprocess error.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was literally just a process error. This was not against them in any particular way,\u201d Dorsey told the House Energy and Commerce Committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we remove a violation we require people to correct it,\u201d he added. \u201cWe changed that based on their to wanting to delete that tweet, which I completely agree with. I see it. But it is something we learn.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Dorsey dodged a question from Rep. Steve Scalise about who decided to freeze the 200-year-old news<\/a>paper\u2019s account.<\/p>\n

Twitter demanded The Post delete six tweets that linked to stories based on files from the abandoned laptop of President Biden\u2019s son. Twitter backed down after the paper refused to remove the posts \u2014 a development The Post celebrated on its Oct. 31 front page with the headline \u201cFREE BIRD!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir entire account to be blocked for two weeks by a mistake seems like a really big mistake,\u201d Scalise, a Louisiana Republican, told Dorsey. \u201cWas anyone held accountable in your censoring department for that mistake?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, we don\u2019t have a censoring department,\u201d the bearded and newly bald-headed tech exec replied.<\/p>\n

When Scalise interjected to ask who made the decision \u201cto block their account for two weeks,\u201d Dorsey claimed, \u201cWe didn\u2019t block their account for two weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe required them to delete the tweet and then they could tweet it again,\u201d he said. \u201cThey didn\u2019t take that action, so we corrected it for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scalise compared Twitter\u2019s response to The Post\u2019s stories with a Jan. 9 Washington Post article that claimed then-President Donald Trump urged Georgia\u2019s lead elections investigator to \u201cfind the fraud\u201d in the state\u2019s presidential vote and that she\u2019d be a \u201cnational hero\u201d if she did.<\/p>\n

The paper issued a lengthy correction<\/a> to the story this month revealing that Trump never used those words, though he did say the official would find \u201cdishonesty\u201d and that she had \u201cthe most important job in the country right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are tweets today \u2026 that still mischaracterize it even in a way where the Washington Post admitted it\u2019s wrong, yet those mischaracterizations can still be retweeted,\u201d Scalise told Dorsey. \u201cWill you address that and start taking those down to reflect what even the Washington Post themselves has admitted is false information?\u201d<\/p>\n

Dorsey would not answer affirmatively either way: \u201cOur misleading information policies are focused on manipulated media, public health and civic integrity,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s it.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
