One person was killed and a half-dozen people hurt after a suspect went on a stabbing rampage at a Canadian library.<\/p>\n

A suspect was in custody in connection with the lone wolf Saturday afternoon attack in North Vancouver, officials tweeted<\/a> at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

The violence happ<\/a>ened in and around the Lynn Valley library branch in the suburb, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.<\/p>\n

Six people were taken to the hospital, emergency workers told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation<\/a>. Their conditions were not immedia<\/a>tely revealed.<\/p>\n

A man who works at a bank across the street from the library told the outlet he witnessed the attacker being arrested after possibly being shot with rubber bullets by cops.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe response from the police was tremendous,\u201d Justin Prasad said, according to the CBC. \u201cI\u2019ve never seen so many cops in one area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rylan Harvey was dining and shopping nearby, when he saw the injured being taken away on stretchers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope the victims are OK,\u201d he told the CBC. \u201cI\u2019m very sad for this to have happened in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

He called North Vancouver a \u201cquiet and idyllic place,\u201d where violence is rare.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople just seem to be general<\/a>ly shocked,\u201d Harvey told the CBC. \u201cHow the hell can this happen in North Van? I grew up five minutes from here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police continue to search for witnesses to the stabbing rampage.<\/p>\n
