“#Jen Psaki, Chris Wallace spar over media<\/a> access to border<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Fox News<\/a> host Chris Wallace ripped White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Sunday over media access at border facilities \u2014 saying the Biden Administration is being \u201cless transparent than the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was part of a tense exchange between the two during an interview on \u201cFox News Sunday.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Wallace said \u201cthe only way we know how bad conditions are\u201d at the border is because of photographs taken and released by Republican and Democratic members of Congress.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese kids are living in these conditions now. They\u2019re not living in these conditions some indeterminate time from now when the president says everything will be fixed,\u201d \u200bWallace said.<\/p>\n

He also pushed back on Psaki\u2019s insistence during White House news briefings that the visits must be conducted\u00a0safely because of the coronavirus\u00a0pandemic.<\/p>\n

Psaki said the president is \u201cabsolutely committed\u201d to allowing media access.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen?\u201d Wallace asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to provide access into the border patrol facilities. We are mindful of the fact that we are in the middle of a pandemic,\u201d she said. \u201cWe want to keep these kids safe, keep the staff safe, but we are absolutely committed to transparency and providing access to media to the border patrol facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Wallace pressed about the lack of access and how the\u00a0length of time\u00a0minors are being held violates the law, saying\u00a0the Biden White House is \u201cbeing less transparent than the Trump administration.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said former President Donald Trump \u201cturned away kids at the border\u201d and sent them back on a \u201ctreacherous journey\u201d or ripped \u201ckids from the arms of their parents.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not doing that,\u201d Psaki said.\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n

\u201c\u200bI would also say we are committed to solutions. That\u2019s why I noted that we reopened or opened three facilities that have almost 7,000 beds to allow for processing these kids more quickly out of the Border Patrol facilities\u200b,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u200bWe absolutely agree these are not places for children and our focus is on solutions and moving them as quickly as possible\u200b,\u201d Psaki said.\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n

Wallace also challenged Psaki on her claims that the \u201cborder remains closed\u201d and that the\u00a0administration is turning away the \u201cmajority of adults.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can play with percentages, but in absolute numbers, these are record numbers. There are now 18,000 unaccompanied minors in U.S. custody. There are new records being set, 500 to 800 each day\u200b,\u201d he said.\u200b<\/p>\n

Psaki responded: \u201cOur objective is to take a different app<\/a>roach from the last administration. We are not going to send children under the age of 18, kids under the age of 18, back on this treacherous journey.\u201d <\/p>\n

She added that just because there are thousands of children being held in Health and Human Services facilities, \u201cit does not mean they get to stay in the United States, it means their cases are adjudicated.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
