Piers Morgan said a sick troll threatened to murder him in front of his three sons after he accused Meghan Markle of lying during her TV tell-all.<\/p>\n

The former-TV host\u00a0wrote in the Mail on Sunday<\/a>\u00a0about the threats that he believes were part of a \u201cclearly orchestrated social media<\/a> pile-on\u201d after he trashed Markle\u2019s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always subscribed to the \u2018if you dish it out, you\u2019ve got to take it\u2019 philosophy,\u201d the 55-year-old former \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent\u201d judge wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut my three sons told me they too are all being targeted, and sent me screenshots of venomous abuse and threats of violence towards them,\u201d he wrote of adult sons Spencer, Albert and Stanley.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne troll vowed to murder me in front of them, and added: \u2018When your dad dies, the world will have a party,’\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n

The threats \u201cmade my stomach churn, especially as police are already investigating a death threat made to me and my eldest boy Spencer last month,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

He was referring to a screenshot he shared on Feb. 16<\/a> of a death threat received by Spencer, which also threatened the son and his mother. London\u2019s Metropolitan Police confirmed to The Independent <\/a>at the time that the threats were being investigated.<\/p>\n

The former tabloid editor insisted that none of his sons \u201ceven care about Meghan Markle, let alone agree with my views on her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYet the Twitter troll mob has found them guilty by association,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In his lengthy first-person piece, Morgan admitted that he regrets storming out of his then-show, \u201cGood Morning Britain,\u201d during a row about the Oprah special with Markle and Prince Harry.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew it wasn\u2019t a good look, the great snowflake-basher running away from confrontation. And on reflection, I shouldn\u2019t have done it,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

However, he defended his decision to quit the morning show \u2014 confirming that he left after being told his only other option was to publicly apologize to Markle, who had formally complained to ITV about his verbal attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cI reached a moment of total gut clarity: f\u2013k it, I wasn\u2019t going to apologize for disbelieving Meghan Markle, because the truth is that I don\u2019t believe Meghan Markle,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd in a free, democratic society, I should be allowed not to believe someone, and to say that I don\u2019t believe them. That, surely, is the very essence of freedom of speech?<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I said I now believed Meghan, I would be lying to the audience, the very thing I\u2019ve accused her of doing,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Morgan also defended his friend Sharon Osbourne, who was axed from US TV\u2019s \u201cThe Talk\u201d after defending him.<\/p>\n

He said their cases were \u201cabout a far bigger issue than one delusional Duchess,\u201d instead reflecting \u201ceveryone\u2019s right to be free to express our honestly held opinions, forcefully and passionately if we feel like it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf our rights to free speech are denied, then democracy as we know it will die,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s time to cancel the cancel culture before it kills our culture.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
