\n Culture critic: Self-Help Social Justice<\/strong><\/p>\n

The similarities between self-help guides and \u201canti-racism handbooks\u201d are \u201ceerie, but also unsurprising,\u201d observes Kat Rosenfield at Tablet. Both general<\/a>ly target \u201cthe guilt, anxiety and insecurities of financially secure white women\u201d: Self-help \u201chas always been a woman\u2019s game<\/a>,\u201d and the \u00adattendees of Robin DiAngelo\u2019s \u201cWhite Fragility\u201d seminars are \u201coverwhelmingly white, female and highly educated.\u201d Both sapp<\/a>y self-help and the woke guides insist you need \u201cconstant and unmitigated navel-gazing\u201d to remedy your supposed flaws, whether cellulite or racism. Instead of helping \u201cmarginalized communities who suffer most from oppression,\u201d then, \u201cself-help social justice\u201d just \u201cfuels the pleasant, ego-driven delusion\u201d that nothing is more important than a person\u2019s own \u201cthoughts, attitudes and feelings.\u201d The \u201chighly educated, financially secure, socially liberal and politically engaged women\u201d falling for it are just \u201cjournaling through their guilt while the world burns outside.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pandemic journal: Good News<\/a> on Herd Immunity<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two new studies suggest immunity to the coronavirus may be far more widespread than past research implied, reports Reason\u2019s Ronald Bailey. Researchers at Sweden\u2019s Karolinska Institute found that even \u201casymptomatic family members\u201d of individuals with COVID-19 may have \u201cimmunity\u201d to the virus. Meanwhile, German researchers discovered that \u201cearlier common-cold coronavirus infections\u201d could offer protection against COVID-19. While both studies have only \u201csmall sample sizes\u201d and haven\u2019t yet \u201cbeen vetted by peer review,\u201d they suggest that many countries, \u00adincluding the United States, are \u201cmuch closer to herd immunity\u201d than we thought \u2014 or media alarmists are prepared to admit. If future work validates the new findings, that\u2019s \u201cvery good news\u201d indeed.<\/p>\n

2020 watch: Bobblehead Biden<\/strong><\/p>\n

While \u201cDemocrats across the country plot to defund the police and tear down statues of great Americans,\u201d Joe Biden is choosing not to \u00ad\u201cdenounce the Jacobin mobs destroying our cities,\u201d charges The Federalist\u2019s David Marcus. Once, Blue Dog Democrats such as Biden defended \u201cpolice and law and order.\u201d Now \u201cUncle Joe from Scranton\u201d is just a vapid \u201cbobblehead\u201d for \u201cMarxist ideologies that keep our streets unsafe, poorly educate our children [and] destroy jobs.\u201d Sure, Biden may still \u201clove America,\u201d but \u201chis party demonstrably does not\u201d \u2014 and if he becomes president, he will serve as \u201ca mere rubber stamp for the cackling mobs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iconoclast: Profiteering Off \u2018Never Trumpers\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

The establishment media keep calling the anti-Trump Lincoln Project a \u201cconservative PAC\u201d \u2014 yet, fumes the Atlantic\u2019s Andrew Ferguson, it\u2019s flying \u201cunder false colors.\u201d The group presents itself as \u201cfresh, principled and trans-partisan\u201d but is \u201cfunneling money to its advisory members\u201d while \u201cspending relatively little airing political ads to influence voters.\u201d Those advisory members are mostly \u201cunhappy former Republicans,\u201d like the consultant Rick Wilson, and the few ads the group is airing are \u201cpersonally abusive, overwrought\u201d and \u201cpointlessly salacious.\u201d The least the group could have done is \u201cleave Lincoln out of it\u201d: Sure, Honest Abe originally insulted his political adversaries, but \u201chis soul deepened\u201d as he matured. \u201cSuch growth is unlikely to overtake the Lincoln Project,\u201d however, which in its quest to take down Trump has become more like him than Lincoln.<\/p>\n

Conservative: The Auxiliary-Democratic League<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Anti-Defamation League will apparently cross \u201cany red line\u201d to prioritize \u201cpartisan politics\u201d over its core mission of combating anti-Semitism, fumes JNS.org\u2019s Jonathan S. Tobin. ADL leader Jonathan Greenblatt has now allied his organization with Al Sharpton, \u201ca race-baiting inciter of anti-Semitic violence,\u201d in a campaign to push Facebook to censor conservative ads. Disgracefully, Greenblatt treats Sharpton\u2019s support as \u201ca gift for which he is truly grateful,\u201d not once calling on him to \u201cconfess his role\u201d as an instigator of the 1991 Crown Heights riots, \u201ca modern-day pogrom.\u201d Bottom line: Greenblatt has \u201ctrashed ADL\u2019s reputation in his pursuit of a liberal political agenda.\u201d \u2014 Compiled by Karl Salzmann\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
