The Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/strong><\/em> TV series<\/a> has set its official cast, just as the Disney+ limited series is set to begin production. Disney+\u00a0has announced the full cast of the Star Wars<\/em> limited series+ starring\u00a0Ewan McGregor<\/strong>\u00a0as the Jedi Master, with old faces like Hayden Christensen<\/strong> and Joel Edgerton<\/strong>\u00a0joining him as well as new surprises including\u00a0Kumail Nanjiani<\/strong>,\u00a0Sung Kang\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>(the\u00a0Fast and Furious\u00a0<\/em>franchise), and\u2026Uncut Gems<\/em>\u00a0co-director\u00a0Benny Safdie<\/strong>? Disney+ announced the cast of the \u201cspecial event series\u201d officially titled\u00a0Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em>, featuring McGregor reprising his roles as the titular Jedi Master. The series will mark the return of\u00a0Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader, while Joel Edgerton, who played Uncle Owen in\u00a0Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith<\/em> for all of a one-minute scene, will be back in presumably a larger role.<\/p>\n

Also joining the cast are Moses Ingram<\/strong>, Bonnie Piesse<\/strong>, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma<\/strong>, Rupert Friend<\/strong>, O\u2019Shea Jackson Jr.<\/strong>, Sung Kang, Simone Kessell<\/strong>, and Benny Safdie. See the full cast list below.

Disney also announced that\u00a0Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em>, described as a \u201cspecial event series,\u201d will begin shooting in April. Per Disney\u2019s press release, \u201cThe story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars:\u00a0Revenge of the Sith<\/em> where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi app<\/a>rentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.\u201d<\/p>\n

A few of members of the ensemble had already been reported, like McGregor, Christensen, and Varma, but there are still a few pleasant surprises in this announcement. Nanjiani, who has apparently become a fast Disney favorite lately with his upcoming superhero debut set in Marvel\u2019s\u00a0The Eternals<\/em>, is joining the cast, as are Fast and Furious<\/em> alum Sung Kang (Justice for Han!), rising talent O\u2019Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton<\/em>), and curiously, indie auteur Benny Safdie of\u00a0Good Time<\/em> and\u00a0Uncut Gems<\/em> fame. The latter actor is not one you would expect to pop up in a\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> series, but I\u2019m eager to see how Safdie fares in a project not directed by him and his brother.<\/p>\n

Deborah Chow,<\/strong> who directed two episodes of\u00a0The Mandalorian<\/em> season 1, is directing\u00a0Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em>, which has not yet announced its number of episodes.\u00a0Kathleen Kennedy<\/strong>, Michelle Rejwan<\/strong>, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor and writer Joby Harold<\/strong> executive produce Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em>, which will debut\u00a0exclusively on Disney+.<\/p>\n
