The new\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em><\/strong> sequel now has a cast, and in keeping with the franchise\u2019s tradition, it\u2019s made up of actors you probably aren\u2019t very familiar with.\u00a0Emily Bader<\/strong>, Roland Buck III<\/strong>, Dan Lippert<\/strong>, and Henry Ayres-Brown<\/strong> are all on board the film, which comes from\u00a0Happ<\/a>y Death Day<\/em> franchise writer Christopher Landon<\/strong> and\u00a0Underwater<\/em> director\u00a0Will Eubank<\/strong>. Details remain rather vague, but the new\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em> movie will debut exclusively on Paramount+.<\/p>\n

The Wrap<\/a> broke the news<\/a> on the new\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em> cast, revealing that Emily Bader (Charmed<\/em>), Roland Buck III (Chicago<\/em> Med<\/em>),<\/em> Dan Lippert (The Grand Slams<\/em>), and\u00a0Henry Ayres-Brown (The Blacklist<\/em>) are all appearing in the film. And if I\u2019m being honest, I have to say I haven\u2019t heard of any of these performers. But that\u2019s nothing new: the original\u00a0Paranormal Activity\u00a0<\/em>featured virtually unknown actors, and most of the sequels followed suit. It\u2019s kind of baked into the premise \u2013 if you cast well-known actors in a found footage movie it immedia<\/a>tely ruins the illusion that what we\u2019re watching is supposed to be \u201creal.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span>
\nOf course, we don\u2019t know for sure if the new\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em> will be a found footage movie. It seems likely since every previous entry in the series<\/a> has used this format, but you never know how these things are going to shake out. For now, let\u2019s all assume the film will once again involve people filming themselves in a haunted house.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em> franchise kicked off in 2007 with the first film, which was written and directed by\u00a0Oren Peli and starred\u00a0Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat. A great marketing campaign that hyped up how scary the film was helped turn it into a massive success \u2013 it reportedly cost only\u00a0$15,000 to film and ended up hauling in $193.4 million worldwide. When a horror movie does numbers like that, a sequel is inevitable. Sure enough, several follow-ups continued the story, weaving often needlessly complicated mythology. There was\u00a0Paranormal Activity 2<\/em> in 2010,\u00a0Paranormal Activity 3<\/em> in 2011,\u00a0Paranormal Activity 4<\/em> in 2012,\u00a0Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones<\/em> in 2014, and\u00a0Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension<\/em> in 2015.<\/p>\n

The new film comes from director Will Eubank, who helmed the surprisingly good aquatic horror film\u00a0Underwater<\/em>, and screenwriter Christopher Landon. Landon is the writer behind the\u00a0Happy Death Day<\/em> franchise, and he also directed both of those films. He recently helmed the excellent body-swap horror-comedy\u00a0Freaky<\/em>. But he also has a history with the\u00a0Paranormal Activity<\/em> franchise, having written the scripts for\u00a0Paranormal Activity 2<\/em>,\u00a03<\/em>, 4<\/em>, and\u00a0Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, <\/em>which he also directed.<\/p>\n

This upcoming seventh entry was previously announced for a\u00a0March 4<\/strong>, 2022<\/strong> release. Whether or not that release date holds remains to be seen, but when the film does arrive, it\u2019ll be going straight to Paramount+.<\/p>\n
