tests<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>NASA\u00a0engineers\u00a0at the\u00a0Virginia-based\u00a0Langley Research Center have\u00a0begun a new <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of four water-impact drop tests using a test version of the agency\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/science\/nasa-orion-moon-capsule\">Orion spacecraft capsule<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The tests, conducted at Langley\u2019s\u00a0Landing and Impact Research Facility Hydro Impact Basin in Hampton, will simulate various\u00a0landing\u00a0scenarios in order to help researchers get a clearer picture of what Orion and its crew may experience when landing in the\u00a0Pacific Ocean\u00a0after the planned\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/specials\/artemis\/\">Artemis missions<\/a>\u00a0to the moon.<\/p>\n<p>Orion will launch on NASA\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/science\/see-it-nasa-successfully-tests-worlds-most-powerful-rocket\">new heavy-lift rocket<\/a>, the 322-foot-tall\u00a0Space Launch System (SLS), which is set to be used in\u00a0Artemis I at the end of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During the first Artemis mission, the SLS rocket will\u00a0send an uncrewed\u00a0Orion\u00a0on a flight around the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/science\/air-and-space\/planets\">lunar planet<\/a>\u00a0and back to\u00a0Earth\u00a0\u2014 marking the first of three missions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NASA plans to land the first woman and next man on the moon by 2024 in order\u00a0to \u201cexplore more of the lunar surface than ever before\u201d and prepare for the next step: sending astronauts to\u00a0Mars.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0engineers\u00a0officially started testing with a rough model of Orion\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/home\/hqnews\/2011\/jul\/HQ_11-242_Orion_Tests.html\">in 2011<\/a>, NASA had performed a series of previous drop tests with what they called a\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/langley\/orion-splashdown-tests-soak-up-data-to-keep-astronauts-safe\">Ground Test Article<\/a>\u00a0at the basin in 2016.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, the new tests are using a new configuration of the crew module \u2014 built at\u00a0lead contractor Lockheed Martin\u2019s facility in\u00a0Colorado\u00a0\u2014 that \u201crepresents the spacecraft\u2019s final design,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/image-feature\/orion-making-new-waves-ahead-of-first-artemis-mission-with-astronauts\">according to a release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cData from the water impact tests are part of the formal qualification test program to fulfill structural design and requirement verification before\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/nasa-s-first-flight-with-crew-important-step-on-long-term-return-to-the-moon-missions-to\">Artemis II<\/a>, NASA\u2019s first Artemis mission with crew,\u201d NASA wrote. \u201cInformation will help feed final computer models for loads and structures prior to the\u00a0Artemis II\u00a0flight test.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/langley\/orion-test-article-ready-to-make-another-splash-for-artemis\">a previous statement<\/a>, NASA wrote that there had been several structural updates and improvements\u00a0to the crew module and noted that data from the 2021 tests would be included\u00a0in final computer modeling.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is less about trying to reduce model uncertainty and more about loading up to design limits, bringing the model higher in elevation and higher in load, not testing to requirements, but testing to extremes,\u201d\u00a0Chris Tarkenton, technical lead, explained in November.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThousands of possibilities will be whittled down to some critical cases.
